About
Built in 1916 as a winter retreat, this lavish villa is a tribute to the Italian Renaissance. The museum contains much of the original furnishings and artwork, and is surrounded by lush, formal gardens.

- JULIE SNashville, Tennessee52 contributionsThere is a reason it’s #1 tourist spot in MiamiBeautiful mansion/castle. 70 rooms and we saw dozens of them. Interesting to learn their “modern” conveniences. The gardens were spectacular, as were tge views of the water. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It reminded me a bit of the Biltmore in Asheville, NCVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 July 2023
- CasandraTPSydney, Australia1,105 contributionsA must do if travelling to MiamiThis has to be one of the most beautiful house and garden I have been to. Get there early to avoid the crowds and escape the heat. We started in the garden and it has so many beautiful spots within it. Be warned we did see quite a large alligator in the back garden area but there are signs warning you about this. Everything is beautiful and photogenic. The barge on the bay is just amazing and everything looks like it should have been there centuries. The house itself is beyond amazing, I would have loved to have been a guest of James Deerling and seen it at its prime. There is an audio tour you can download prior to arrival to get more information. It was easy to get an Uber to and from there. You really need at least 2 hours to explore everything. It really is a must see if you go to Miami.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 July 2023
- Hannah AridaOrlando, Florida4 contributionsPicturesque & Magical! After breakfast/brunch we went to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Driving into the gardens was magical because of the trees all around and hanging over the car! It was so cool! Even though it was HOT HOT HOT the day we went to the gardens we still thoroughly enjoyed walking around and exploring. I'd definitely go back to explore more!Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 July 2023
- Sean BGreat Falls, Virginia75 contributionsA "fantasy" palace/grand mansion in Miami from last centuryInteresting to see a vision to create a European style "palace" or grand mansion in Miami. If you have travelled Europe extensively, you may not find this interesting but (even having lived and travelled in Europe extensively) I found it interesting. The audio tour (free via their app) definitely added to the experience. Worth a few hours visit. Note that it is fairly open and thus is not an airconditioned museum.Visited August 2023Written 11 August 2023
- Shawn HWashington DC, District of Columbia413 contributionsGo for the TourWe had a great time at Vizcaya learning the history and enjoying the architecture. We had an excellent, assertive tour guide who was clearly passionate about the place and was volunteering on his birthday after many years working at the location. It was neat seeing the house, grounds, railcar, and storm damage to the water features - though it was sad to see how much of the original gardens were sold off for development. Still - what's left is very worth the trip and the excellent tour guides make it all the better.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 August 2023
- amomfromnycNew York City, New York124 contributionsGreat visit!Fun and informative visit! Really enjoyed the Main House tour for an additional small fee which reviewed how James Deering and his guests and staff would have lived and worked at Vizcaya. The main part of the house is air conditioned so one can enjoy admiring the architecture and furnishings.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 September 2023
- Kelly BIowa4,376 contributionsBoth the house and gardens are spectacularMy husband and I arrived about 15 minutes before the opening time. We were easily able to find parking in Vizcaya’s lot at that time. When we left a few hours later, the lot was full. At the advice of one of the docents, we started out in the gardens first since it was so hot. The gardens are beautiful, with many fountains. It’s a popular place for professional photographs of brides and birthday girls, so that was slightly annoying: having to wait until they were done to take pictures of the fountains and stonework. The house was equally gorgeous. Most of the rooms are open to the public, although many are blocked off by a rope, so you just peek in. There is a third floor as well, so don’t miss that! The stairs aren’t obvious like on the first floor. We ate at the cafe afterwards, in the basement of the house. It was okay.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 September 2023
- Bnizzle76Indianapolis, Indiana286 contributionsVast VizcayaWe bought tickets at the entrance for $25 per person on Saturday, SEP 22, and spent 2-3 hrs touring the mansion and gardens. It wasn’t crowded. The rooms are beautifully decorated and accurately reflect the time period- be sure and explore all 3 floors. We especially enjoyed the lovely gardens and fountains.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2023
- Karen VSpringfield, Missouri135 contributionsBeautiful Home and GardensVizcaya was a beautiful and interesting home set on the water. We did not participate in the formal tour of the house, but we enjoyed touring the home on our own and we learned a lot about Mr. Deering’s life and the history of the property. We also strolled the beautiful gardens. If you’re a fan of architecture, interior design, or history, this is a must. I also have to add that all the staff we interacted with during our visit were very professional and went out of their way to ensure guests enjoyed the visit.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 September 2023
- Lovetotravel11 contributionsIncredible!!!Not sure if I can fit everything amazing I need to say about this place in one review. Incredible doesn’t even cover our experience here. Went for a friends birthday cause he’s a history nerd and we stayed till just before closing. There was not a single part of the villa or gardens that didn’t blow me away and make me awe in the incredibleness of the space. My biggest tip is to bring an umbrella with you for shade when you’re walking along in the gardens and outside the villa. It was one of the things that was recommended when I brought our tickets online and we were so happy that we listened, it allowed us to explore the outside grounds comfortably and pace ourselves as we weren’t roasting in the brutal Florida sun. The villa itself was surprising cool with some much appreciated air condition. Another amazing thing I loved was the cafe they have there! They have a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating area and had some real sandwiches, some pastries, and the best part, they had ice cream! My other biggest tip is to make sure that you have plenty of storage left on your phone for pictures. All in all, it was a steel for the ticket prices and we had such an amazing time and definitely won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 September 2023

In a city with not much remembered and celebrated culture and heritage, Vizcaya is a hidden gem, not to be missed by tourists. I recommend the guide book as there is a lot of history behind this wonderful palace--now a picturesque museum. Kids may get restless as it might seem boring to them, as most museums do that don't have dinosaurs!

The tour of the house and grounds is really special. It's a beautiful place. Many people were having photo shoots for quince's and weddings. Miami is a young city, but there is some wonderful history here. Shows times gone by in a gilded age.

Very pretty garden and ocean view. Romantic for couple, also interesting for family with kids. The guided tour in the museum is fun too. What I didn't know was if you only want to visit the garden it is free of charge. Visit also the cafeteria for snacks and drinks. There are also many beautiful souvenirs in display. Worth to visit!

The home and gardens are both stunning. You can do either a self guided tour, audio tour, or have a guide. We chose the self guided tour with the guidebook. Maps are free at the entrance to the house though, and descriptions of the rooms are available in each room, so it's not necessary to purchase the guidebook ($3) if you're only going to tour the house. However, if you plan to tour the extensive gardens as well, the guidebook is useful. If you visit during the summer, try to go in the morning, as it's gets pretty hot in the gardens in the afternoon. They also have a delightful cafe on the property, but the food is, as expected, somewhat overpriced. Admission prices when we visited was Adults $15, Seniors/Students $10. It was worth every penny, and an especially rewarding escape from the crazy world of modern Miami.

We stayed overnight on the south side of Miami Intl., prior to a flight overseas and I browsed on the internet for somewhere close by to visit and found this little jewel. We joined a group just about to leave on a guided tour around the main house and it was so very interesting. We would never had believed it was built in the early 1900's, more like a couple of centuries before that! The property now belongs to Miami-Dade County and hosts banquets during the course of the year and one was being prepared for while we were there - what a wonderful view the guests were going to have. We spent a couple of hours there, and thoroughly enjoyed it, well worth a visit.

This house is a delight to tour, either by yourself or with a guide. Amazing how much money some people had (and have). Over-the-top decor. A beautiful location on the water. I can't comment on the gardens, as it started to pour as we were finishing up in the house. We weren't prepared for rain. BTW, the rain ponchos they sell for way-too-much money in the gift shop are useless. Otherwise a nice shop and cafe.

This is one of my favorite places in all of south-east florida. Beautiful beautiful gardens, so tranquil. Feels as if you aren't in florida at all. Also a beautiful place for a wedding!

So, James Deering ,the original owner of Vizcaya ,was the son of Richard Deering who created International Deering Harvester that became John Deer one of the largest manufacturers of farming equipment in the country. James Deering was the vice president of manufacturing before he commissioned Vizcaya , and retired there

My friend and I are planning a visit soon and we want to take some photos of our vacation fun. I've been reading conflicting reports on Vizcaya's photography permits and need to know before I go...I'm not a professional but I have a dslr and again want to get a few portraits in, however on the weekends it says you have to purchase a $350 permit plus tax to do any kind of posed portrait photography. I feel that's steep compared to other museums/gardens. Some people have said they only paid the $22 admission fee and no one asked about a photo permit, others said they had to pay. There's no clear distinction if travel photography for fun is free, even if its basically portrait photography. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks!
