Rehearsals are underway in London for the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Starlight Express.
And to celebrate, producers of the show have released a video tracking the meet-and-greet on the first day of rehearsals for the mega-musical, which opens in London in June 2024 .
The video shows the cast gathering for the first day of rehearsals, with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and director Luke Sheppard talking to the cast and creative team. There is also a tempting first look at the set for the show, which will fill the huge Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre as the “Starlight Auditorium”, including skating race tracks running through the audience.
Initial casting for the show was announced back in Marc, with Starlight Express principles including Jeevan Braich as Rusty, Kayna Montecillo as Pearl, Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy, Al Knott as Greaseball, Eve Humphrey as Dinah and Tom Pigram as Electra.
There’s still no news on who will play Poppa, Duvay, Ashley, Dustin, Belle, Flat Top, Wrench, Volta, and Ruhrgold.
The ensemble will include Ollie Augustin, Charles Butcher, Renz Cardenas, Catherine Cornwall, Jamie Cruttenden, Kelly Downing, Asher Forth, Sam Gallacher, Lucy Glover, Pablo Gómez Jones, Scott Hayward, Lilianna Hendy, Lewis Kidd, Hannah Kiss, Oscar Kong, Emily Martinez, Deearna Mclean, Marianthe Panas, David Peter-Brown, RED, Bethany Rose-Lythgoe, Ashley Rowe, Gary Sheridan, Elly Shaw, Jessica Vaux, Jaydon Vijn, Lara Vina Uzcatia, Sharon Wattis and Ashlyn Weekes. The show promises to be an immersive theatrical event, with a cast of 40 whizzing around and above the audience on special tracks in the specially reconfigured auditorium.
Songs in the show, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, include AC/DC, Make Up My Heart, Light at the End of the Tunnel, and Starlight Express.
Directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, The Little Big Things), the creative team also includes creative dramaturg Arlene Phillips; choreography by Ashley Nottingham; set design by Tim Hatley; video design by Andrzej Goulding; costume design by Gabriella Slade; lighting design by Howard Hudson; sound design by Gareth Owen; and new orchestrations and musical supervision by Matthew Brind.
Starlight Express is playing at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in London from 8 June 2024 to 16 February 2025.
