Camping at 7500 feet

How does your baby do? My baby is 10 months. Looking to spend one night camping.

Depends on what altitude you guys live in, for someone like me who lives in San Diego with almost no elevation, it’s likely I would get some sort of elevation sickness, at the very least short of breath. If you live somewhere that has around 3000-4000 elevation it probably wouldn’t affect you guys much

@lexybexy,

we’re in Fresno. We go every summer and it never bothers us, but the baby hasn’t been yet. I put a call into his Dr.

I wouldn’t worry too much but I’d do some research on altitude sickness, know the signs, and bail if you must. Offer more water/milk to keep babe hydrated, and follow baby’s lead on level of activity. Chances are you’ll notice it more than they will. Where are you camping? I grew up in Bako, went to school in Fresno and now live in Ohio, so just know I’m living vicariously through you with this trip

@boymom54543,

Gorgeous. I grew up camping all over the Sierras and miss it all the time. Have so much fun!!

if you’re coming from sea level, can you stay one night slightly lower? That helps. And lots of opportunities to feed.

Babies aren’t able to regulate their oxygen levels when changing altitude due to their immature lungs if they are under three months old. If they’re older than 3 months I think you should be ok, but make sure to keep a close eye on the LO and I think you did the right thing by calling the Dr to see first.

@PoppyClover,

baby is 10 months, I asked his pediatrician and he said it was fine. I will definitely keep an eye on him
