Disney is currently enjoying unexpected triumphs. However, the Mickey Mouse company has been struggling in the cinema for months and years. The money printing machine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe really started to sputter. Star Wars, one of the most important film franchises, is still lying idle. And the all-important family division with animated films and live-action adaptations of animated classics only produced flops (like this Disney princess) or disappointments.
Away from the big screen, things are going better on home screens. When it comes to series, Disney is increasingly providing real exclamation marks that are celebrated by critics and seem to be worthwhile for the audience. The competition from streaming providers like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video should be quite jealous.

What is the “best series of the year”?
Two series are currently causing a sensation on Disney Plus, which are available as part of the subscription at no additional cost. On the one hand, there is the first season of Shogūn, which is described by many as the “best series of the year”, and especially by fans of Game of Thrones, House of The Dragon or the 1990s classic Braveheart should inspire. Originally, the series was supposed to have already ended and no new episodes would appear.
But then came Disney's surprising turnaround. Shogūn is not only popular with the audience. The Japanese historical drama scored on the rating portal Rotten Tomatoes an incredible critic score of 99 percent. However, another series on Disney Plus is “the best series of the year” in a different category.

As was recently announced, there is a series on Disney Plus, which more than wipes the floor with its in-house competition when it comes to viewer numbers. It is a series that is likely to have delighted fans of Harry Potter in particular. It's Percy Jackson. The extent of the success is likely to surprise even experts; a second season has consequently already been confirmed.
