I'm contemplating putting up that NSFW tag for that Homer and Moe interaction.
I can't believe that made it to air. It felt very un-Simpsons.
Nah, that scene had me cackling.
Thought the same , usually down for raunchy comedy but that kinda made me feel uncomfortable. Maybe cause it was so different from what the Simpson normally do. I kinda felt like this whole episode was kinda off.
It's not Simpsons like but it made me laugh
The gag was clever but they tried to squeeze too much out of it. I got the joke before the mini-montage I didn't need the joke drilled into my head.
Edit: it's just the mini montage, I like more running after homer at the end, but specifically the mini montage I disliked.
I agree, usually their "gross" jokes are really, really subtle, like the much revered "Sneed's Feed&Seed", not thinly veiled "going-on-too-long-so-uncomfortable" over the top.
That's Family Guy territory, e.g.

I agree the whole episode just felt like a different show. It wasn't very funny, more kinda satirical and depressing.
Yeah it was weird..
Hey It's Portugese Fausto from "The Wife Aquatic"! He was on the Yum Yum Fish fishing boat. It has been 17 years since his debut episode!
Holy crap, 17 years ,?!
I was SHOCKED when I saw 2007 as the release date, I love that episode and it is wild to think it is almost old enough to vote!
17 years? That still feels like a "new" episode to me.
Time needs to slow the hell down.
Right? In my mind that episode was maybe like 8-10 years ago max- time is moving too damn fast!
I never realized that Homer wears that brown jacket pretty often now, I wonder what the first episode it shows up was
Does he still wear the green jacket? That’s his light-weather jacket, and the brown one is for colder weather.
Oh yeah I forgot about that coat! I feel like it hasn't been on the show for a while
The message was much better in the episode where Marge was working for Doordash. They had the message here but just went all over the place with it.
Yeah, I am frustrated with how much stuff costs, and fees, and tipping on stuff that didn't used to require it. But it's a weird starting point for an episode when you know half the audience is working jobs where they depend on those tips as income to pay rent.
The last few years of the Simpsons has generally been really good, so episodes like this one stand out in contrast as... just meandering half baked text.
Pushing so much politics was tiresome and distracted from the main thing they were parodying which was those ridiculous tablet tips. I live in Seattle, and I’ve stopped going to places that do that, especially since they already make $20 an hour plus tips.
This episode was all over the place. Didn't seem like it had acts but instead a series of sketches centered around tipping.
Also weird that the end put the onus on the workers rather than on the employers for the unhinged service economy.
The whole thing seemed very confused and disjointed, but at least that scene at Moe's was funny.
In the end, you need buy in from the wait staff. Because of the restaurants I've heard of that went to a living wage / no tip system, some of them don't make it because the wait staff just aren't happy with it.
Yeah as someone who’s in a tipped position (though due to working in a completely unique scenario), the problem exists in that while some people would only make a bit less in a fair wage scenario in others especially upscale restaurants, the hourly wage would have to be over $100 an hour to make it worth it
this tipping nonsense angered me to no end. Homer has generally been stupid, but not this money stupid. it was very upsetting to have him intentionally bankrupt his family without any care. the wife should have taken the kids and left him. this was beyond irredeemable and completely senseless. they should just change the show name to Shameless. i miss the show when it used to be funny.
Though at least they mentioned that tipping introduces income disparity between front and back-of-house staff, and that being paid a living wage (by employers is implied here) is better than tipping.
I always love it when Homer brings out his eyeglasses.
lol watching the dvd commentaries I think every time he wears them somebody says the same thing. I love that look too.
If anyone is confused by this song break it is a reference to this Eurovision-Parody song that came out last year, warning though: It is super catchy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-OgkNgxm3k
I figured it was related to Eurovision especially since the finals were this week.
its more of a late 90s/early 00s parody of all the dance music of the time... not really eurovision. It became popular last year on tiktok on videos making fun of the nostalgia from the era...
Yeah. Eurodance. Like Aqua, 2 Unlimited or Vengaboys.
Homer shopping in "Little EU" also had a random mish mash of currencies, sort of dating the parody back in the 90's from before they moved to the Euro. I'm pretty sure the average Simpsons viewer is under 40, so they never would have been spending money in Europe before the Euro.
Yeah! Love Kyle Gordon, he’s great!
His song was fantastic! He is super creative
I first know him on TikTok and now he’s release a new album, he’s considered to be the next Weird Al
I'll have to go check out his other songs, I didn't realize how prolific he was!
Hey it's that guy from The Wife Aquatic, I love that episode so I love this cameo.
Portuguese Fausto!
Musical number was weird. Episode felt longer, I guess I'm just used to them ending so abruptly lately.
I liked Carl's joke at the tavern.
I wonder if writing 10K is even enforceable. Every receipt I've ever gotten has a second long for you to calculate the new total to avoid confusion
Some people with very specific shipping fantasies just had their nights made by that Homer and Moe scene
10K tip? What a cheapskate.
What a strange episode :\
This is such a weird episode. When it started with the tipping premise, I thought it was going to go a different way, but the allegory of Homer being addicted to tipping is just strange. They also overplayed the "it was just a fantasy" joke. I've seen most of this season and this was probably the worst one all season.
Legit thought the same , by far the worst episode. Rarely join a thread and had to for this episode
I really enjoyed this episode but haven't seen much of season 35 other than the two Marge ones that were critically acclaimed, do you have any recs?
Tipping culture in this country definitely does suck. But this was a horrible way of poking fun at it.
More and more restaurants/bars here in Norway have that tipping option on their payment pads. It's getting on a lot of nerves here, with people complaining that we shouldn't incorporate this "American trend".
Like is that option mandatory with the tech or can they remove that option from the pads?
I don't know. I guess it might be some higher-ups who have added it. A friend of mine who works as a bartender and told me he feels a bit embarassed that there is that "CHOOSE A TIP "skriv in beløp" (write amount) and "NO TIP" option.
I think he earns roughly 22 USD per hour btw.
That Moe scene was the biggest laugh I had this season. I didn't know whether to first ask myself "what the hell am I watching" or laugh at the strangeness of the scene.
So... Congratulations on that? Decent episode btw
I believe the actors don’t tape their dialogue in the same studio together anymore, but that scene must have been done the old fashioned way. Hank and Dan play off each other so well.
I found it absolutely hilarious. I knew some people wouldn’t like it, but it was honestly funny af to me.
What the hell was that crap ?! Mi us Portuguese Fausto
I'm not sure if I understood what Marges tattoo was, what is Chalo-Magic?
I think it is a reference to actor Timothe Chalamet?
Oh! That makes total sense lol, now I want to what situation led to Marge getting it
straight woman watched call me by your name and became obsessed with timothee. tale as old as time
Oh I thought it was meant to be Ringo starr, that was all that made sense there.
Kinda reminds me of that one HIMYM episode where Ted got a Butterfly tattoo.
Awe man now I need to go back and watch that episode, I haven't seen it for years!
That whole 'not just the tip' bit between Homer and Moe had me laughing hysterically when I figured out the subtext, that was a highlight.
How did tonights episode only get a PG rating with that moe and homer scene lmao
I’m gay and it made me so uncomfortable, it was too much even for the simpsons. I’m asexual and love dirty humor but that was too far
The scenery/background in front of the Homer Simpsons house with the pink sky looks so beautiful.
I will now refer to their house as the Homer Simpson house lol that’s great
So Homer has visited the World Trade Center (S9 E1) and the Oculus without aging a single day.
Haven't really been enjoying this season at all.
This season has been strangely mid after two seasons, 33 & 34, where episodes were either extreme highs or extreme lows. Nothing in season 35 I would rank above 6/10, but not below 4/10 either
Yeah, there aren’t really any standout episodes this season (A Serious Flanders I and II, Treehouse of Horror XXXIII) This season has been really consistent with putting out alright episodes except for this one.
At least Season 35 did improved from what Seasons 33 & 34 did and the 750th episode from the Season 34 finale was very disappointing.
That season 34 finale had a lot of potential; I honestly loved the concept just did not enjoy the goobie-woo character at all.
Lizzo didn’t work well for me tbh but at least it’s better than Lisa Goes Gaga
Let’s just… never speak of Lisa Goes Gaga again.
I've enjoyed 35, but what I found most disappointing about it is the lack of spotlight episodes for characters outside of the Simpsons family unit.
Like 33 had Boyz in the High Landz for Martin Prince and The Wayz We Were for Moe.
34 had The King of Nice, Not It and Clown V. Board of Education for Krusty (six Krustys!)
When Nelson Met Lisa for Nelson, Top Goon for both Moe and Nelson, Hostile Kirk Place for Kirk, Carl Carlson Rides Again for Carl.
34 was really good with using the wider Simpsons cast, hope next season gives other characters more spotlights.
35's only episode focusing on a non Simpson was Thirst Trap: a Corporate Love Story which ig counts as a Burns spotlight? Maybe Homer's Crossing is kind of a Wiggum episode?
Marge: Homer, we need to have a serious talk!
Homer: Oh boy! I gonna need some Mexican courage!
Homer: Like most American, our insurance is terrible and has a giant deductible.
Marge: Which we met yesterday
Homer: Thank you kidney stones
Homer: So our transaction was just transactional?! (while getting drowned)
It felt like this episode was made by someone who just discovered that people in Europe don't tip like they do in the USA
Wow, this episode was awful. Flew off the rails with the first act break. Everything about the episode from that point forward was completely out of character for Al Jean-era Homer. Putting Marge under all that financial stress (and giving away Bart's bike and emptying out Lisa's piggy bank) just so he could splash $10 bills everywhere is the height of idiocy and oblivious cruelty and very hard to watch. Especially when we see Marge crying over all the overdue bills on the table. That latter moment would usually be when Homer decides to try to fix things, so what does he do? Skips out on his suffering family and spends a bunch more money he doesn't have to live in a lazily stereotyped Little Europe where there's no tipping.
Wow. Just.. wow. No one in the writers room or at the table read thought to put a hand up and call out this idiocy?
It has been a while I saw Petty and Selma.
Always a treat when they show up and actually have lines. I think Julie has a hard time doing their voices.
Thanks TDXNYC88 for adding what season and episode number to your post. Because of your title I have flaired your post with the correct season and episode number!

Why do they have to pick such boring topics?
Lisa's piggy bank killed me.
I haven't watched a Simpsons episode in a while and that was really really funny. I loved both of the musical numbers, between Homer and everyone's dances while he was tipping them and also the tipping in Europe song . Really good time with this. I also liked a lot of the dialogue jokes
OK, it lost me now that they're singing a "song" where the lyrics are just the standard Reddit lecture on European superiority on tipping/healthcare/wages. I don't even disagree with that stuff; I just hate the flat "we will now proceed to instruct you on the correct views" approach. No jokes worked into it, just a straight up lecture.
They lost me with that but then regained me with how well it went over with the American waiters.
It's bad enough there isn't any subtlety to that final song and it's message about poorly paid staff and expensive healthcare. But I'm insulted they spell it out like we're all kids but don't address any of the reasons why the system is stuck like this. At least bother to show a single corrupt politician (Mayor Quimby) or billionaire (Mr Burns).
I mean come on there was a writer strike in 2023 about this very thing! Now is a good time to call them out. Or would that have upset someone up top if they did that 😅?
The Austin Powers scene hurt to watch a bit, don’t like when people blow money in shows at all
Kyle Gordon segment was as bad as I had anticipated that hurt to watch. Liked the part where Kyle just said the message then ascended
that fucking Moe scene, loved the guy’s reactions
Forgettable episode. Writers forgot to add the comedy.
You have to tip the writers to get high quality comedy.
25% tip for that joke
There was one joke that felt like classic simpsons, because it was smart, relevant, and not extensively highlighted like "DID YOU GET THE JOKE??".
That was the brewery sign clearly re-using the "ry" at the end from the Library that it used to be.
The comedy is in the parody of current events and how it calls out something most of us hate
