Alberton Lions Club scoops accolades at Lions Multiple District 410 Convention

The Alberton Lions Club brought home eight awards from the Lions Multiple District 410 Convention for 2024.

The Alberton Lions Club scooped eight awards at the Lions Multiple District 410 Convention held in Wilderness, Western Cape.

The three-day convention took place from May 2 to 5.

This annual event is open to all Lions Club members in SA, Namibia, and Eswatini and is held at a different venue each year.

The Lions Clubs in the George area, Western Cape, organised this year’s event.

Awards won by the Alberton Lions Club

Club of the year – The highest achievement, most successful in service, membership, and more.

Secretary of the year – The most efficient club secretary, getting meeting minutes, reports and other information out promptly and on time. For going above and beyond the required duties.

Greatest cake sales – Sold the most Lions Christmas cakes in the district.

Improved cake sales – The most improved in cake sales compared to the previous year.

Knights of the blind – The most effective service done in the area of sight in the district – helping the less fortunate with eyeglasses and more.

Childhood cancer – The most effective childhood cancer awareness projects and helping children with cancer.
Social media – The most effective social media posts, and with the most reach.

Electronic scrapbook of the year – The best electronic scrapbook highlighting the club’s projects done throughout the year.

In the last four years, the Alberton Lions Club received several awards from the Lions District and the Multiple District Convention.

“We have received about 30 of these awards in the past four years. We have not always submitted entries. There have also been several individuals who received recognition for their service over the years,” said Sandy King from the Alberton Lions Club.

“The awards are an indication of all the hard work and passion our club has achieved,” said Penny Enslin, an Alberton Lions Club member.

“I consider it an honour that we receive awards for all our dedication and hard work we do in the community. We don’t do it to receive awards, but it is an acknowledgement that we, hopefully, can make a difference when we do all the work we do in our community. We are humbled and grateful to be acknowledged when we receive these awards,” explained club member Leslie Airey.

Clinton Wallace said the act of giving rewards him as an individual. He is grateful and honoured to be part of an organisation that achieves results in supporting those in need.

The Alberton Lions Club congratulates and thanks its members for their hard work and active engagement in initiatives and services throughout the year.

These people are recognised for helping the club get the respective awards.

Childhood cancer – Cindy Stenri, Darchelle Stiemmie, Sandra, Melinda Strydom and Sandy King.

Social media – Tammy du Plooy, Courtney Lewarne and Sandra Human.

Electronic scrapbook of the year – Melinda Strydom.

“At the end of the day, it is a team effort, but the individuals mentioned headed up the projects,” said King.
