What to Watch the Week of May 19: All the Season—and Series—Goodbyes You Shouldn't Miss, From the American Idol Finale to Tracker

It's a week of season finales (starting with the American Idol finale tonight), in which nearly every broadcast show signs off for the season and some for good. (We'll miss you, The Good Doctor and Young Sheldon.) Although Bridgerton is still fresh in our minds (and you can—and should!—read our deep-dive with showrunner Jess Brownell), it's time to look ahead to this week's new offerings, which include more than 15 shows ending their strike-shortened seasons.

The good news is that most of these shows will return with new episodes in the fall—or midseason—but it's the end of the road for The Good Doctor as well as Katy Perry's last appearance as a judge on American Idol. (Though to be honest, is anything ever permanent on Idol?)

A decade or so ago, this week would kick off months of summer reruns, but thanks to streaming and cable, the summer TV slate is busier than ever. The Bear returns next month, as does new episodes of Bridgerton and a new season of House of the Dragon. And let's not forget the upcoming new season of The Bachelorette starring Jenn Tran, which will premiere in July.

Also, in case you're wondering, the season finales of 9-1-1 and Grey's Anatomy will air next week as well as the series finale of Station 19.

Sunday, May 19

60 Minutes (CBS/Paramount+): Norah O’Donnell interviews Pope Francis in a historic sit-down for the news show. Additional footage will air in an hour-long primetime special on Monday, May 20. The Pope speaks to O’Donnell about the state of the world today, the plight of migrants in the U.S. and abroad, and the Catholic Church’s first World Children’s Day. He also addresses controversies the Church has faced over the past decades and the steps he’s taken to bring the traditional institution into a modern era. 7 p.m. ET/PT, 6 p.m. CT, and streaming on Paramount+

American Idol (ABC): The three-hour live finale—Katy Perry's last—airs tonight. The top three finalists give their all for the last chance to earn America’s vote. Jon Bon Jovi serves as guest mentor, plus special performances from more music legends and today’s top stars. The following artists will perform: Jon Bon Jovi, Nick Fradiani, New Kids on the Block, Jason Mraz, Hootie & the Blowfish, Cece Winans, Wynonna Judd, Seal, Cody Johnson, Bishop Briggs, and James Bay. 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT

Tracker (CBS/Paramount+): Titled “The Storm,” Justin Hartley reunites with his This Is Us co-star, Jennifer Morrison (she played military vet, Cassidy) in tonight's season finale. (Don't worry, it's already been renewed for season two given its stellar ratings.) Here's the logline for the episode: Colter investigates the disappearance of two amateur storm chasers, one of whom is the daughter of an old family friend (Jennifer Morrison), that the local police have written off as an accidental drowning. Colter’s expert tracking skills lead him to uncover the seedy underbelly of a small town resort. 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT and streaming on Paramount+

Monday, May 20

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox): Allison Holker closes out her first season as a judge as the SYTYCD finale airs tonight. The season 16 and 17 winners return to perform as well as Natasha Bedingfield. 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT

Tuesday, May 21

Will Trent (ABC): The season finale airs tonight, titled “Do You See the Vision?” Here's what we know: Will, Faith, and Angie find themselves embroiled in a series of cases where a similar marker links the murders of several sex offenders. Meanwhile, Angie grapples with an unexpected proposition from Amanda. 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT and streaming the next day on Hulu

The Rookie (ABC): The season finale of ABC's other hit show airs tonight, titled “Escape Plan.” Sgt. Grey helps the team prepare for their biggest mission yet. The Good Doctor (ABC): Not just the season finale, but the series finale of this beloved show starring Freddie Highmore. Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza (Paramount+): The three-part docuseries depicts the 30+ year relationship between the iconic Lollapalooza festival and Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros) as he reconnects with the festival and reflects on its cultural significance across multiple genres and decades. Featuring Perry Farrell, Ice-T, Tom Morello, Lars Ulrich, Flea, Trent Reznor, Vernon Reid, Chance TheRapper, and more. Streaming

Jeopardy! Masters: The Finals (ABC): The season finale of the hit game show's Masters edition airs tonight. 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT

Abbott Elementary (ABC): Titled “Party,” tonight's episode is the third season finale before it returns in the fall for season four. Here's the logline: It’s the last day of school! Ahead of summer vacation, Janine throws the perfect end-of-year party for her colleagues and friends, taking all their interests into consideration. 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT and streaming the next day on Hulu

The Connors (ABC): The Connors closes out its sixth season tonight; it will return for its seventh, but final season in the fall. Titled “Less Money, More Problems,” Mark takes on odd jobs, determined to find a way to pay for school. Trying (Apple TV+): Esther Smith and Rafe Spall return for the fourth season, which picks up six years later upon discovering that Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters having built a lovely nuclear family, enriched by an extraordinary support network. However, as their teenage daughter, Princess, starts to yearn for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason find themselves confronted with the ultimate test of their parenting skills. Grey's Anatomy (ABC): The penultimate episode in season 20 airs tonight in which Teddy encourages Amelia and Meredith to speed up their Alzheimer's research over fear of Catherine finding out. Of course, this comes at a time when Amelia makes an important realization, so stay tuned as to how that impacts their timeline. Meanwhile, Mika finds herself caught in the middle of Link and Jo, and Lucas receives bad news. The episode is titled “I Carry Your Heart.” 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT and streaming the next day on Hulu

Station 19 (ABC): Titled “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” the Station 19 crew must jump into action when a wildfire threatens Seattle. Elsbeth (CBS/Paramount+): Titled “A Fitting Finale,” an unlikable fashion photographer is murdered in the middle of a fashion show, and Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) and the team suspect the killer to be either the photographer’s college ex–and leading model of the show, Nadine (Laura Benanti)–or her jealous husband. Meanwhile, Elsbeth’s role at the precinct is thrown into question. The Kardashians (Hulu): Season five premieres today with new episodes rolling out weekly. Streaming

Thirst with Shay Mitchell (Max): In this four episode series, Shay Mitchell explores the world one drink at a time as she visits exotic locations, samples unique ingredients, and meets expert hosts. Friday, May 24

Atlas (Netflix): Jennifer Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of A.I., who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. Got that? Then you're smarter than me. Anyway, plans of course go awry, so her only hope of saving the future of humanity from A.I. is to trust it. Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong also star. Streaming

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (20th Century): The newest film is set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. Directed by Wes Ball, the film stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. In theaters
