High School Highlights

BASEBALL

BIG NINE CONFERENCE

Carson Beavers went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Ethan Labrash was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run as Mayo slipped past Winona 5-3. Isaac Peterson allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits over the first five innings for the win.

• Junior left-hander Mike Ruff allowed one unearned run on just two hits over the first six innings as Century nipped winless Faribault 2-1. Harrison Esau pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the save. Jerry Fletcher and Owen Kelly both hit an double and drove in a run in the first inning for the Panthers.

Grant Hutton tossed a one-hitter and struck out six as Northfield rolled past John Marshall 11-1 in five innings. Jacob Geiger went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs for the Raiders. Nolan Wayne had the lone hit for the Rockets.

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

• Lourdes scored five unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning and then survived Pine Island's three-run seventh to post a 7-6 win. Nick Bowron went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Lourdes while Nolan Rolih hit a double and scored three runs. Landon Lowrie went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Pine Island and Ivan Loy was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Luke Fleming and Landon Olsen combined on an eight-hitter as Lake City held off Kasson-Mantorville 4-3. Aaron Lou hit a double and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Adam Darveaux went 2-for-3 with an RBI for K-M and Sam Graunke was 2-for-4 with a double.

Will Brian went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBIs while Mason Hinchley was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIS as Byron toppled Cannon Falls 8-2. Isaiah Brennen allowed two earned runs over the first six innings for the win. Ryan Hjellming drove in both runs for the Bombers.

Ben Leimer had a big game with two home runs and four RBIs while Jayce Klug was 2-for-2 with an RBI as Stewartville beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 7-3 to improve to 17-1. Hunter Streit went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Z-M.

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

Elias Walch allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, over the first six innings as Plainview-Elgin-Millville edged Chatfield 4-2 to earn at least a share of the Three Rivers West Division title. Nolan Welke and Alex Hinrichs both drove in two runs during a four-run third inning for P-E-M.

Levi Williams and Luke Meyers both had two hits and three RBIs as Dover-Eyota powered past St. Charles 17-3 in five innings.

Drew Peters threw a two-hit shutout and he struck out four as La Crescent-Hokah blanked Winona Cotter 5-0. Kale Baker went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Lancers.

SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE

• In a game that could decide the top seed in Section 1, Class 1A, Southland edged Lyle/Austin Pacelli 2-1 in a 10-inning pitchers' duel. Riley Jax pitched the first 8 1/3 innings for Southland and he allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out 15. He also singled an scored a run. L/P starter Hunter VaDeer went seven innings and he also allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out 15. VaDeer also homered for L/P's lone run in the fourth. Travis Kirtz finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for Southland. Both teams are now 16-1 and they split two games during the regular season.

Morgan Rohweder tossed a five-hit shutout and he struck out 13 as Houston nipped Mabel-Canton 2-0. Rohweder was also 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate. Cayden Tollefsrud suffered the loss despite allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits. Isaac Underbakke went 2-for-3 for M-C.

Gabe Klug allowed no runs and one hit with five strikeouts over the first four innings as Spring Grove rolled past Schaeffer Academy 15-0 in five innings. Ben Udstuen went 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored for Spring Grove while Zach Brumm hit two doubles and had two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

BIG NINE CONFERENCE

Morgan Erickson dazzled in the circle as Century beat Faribault 3-0. Erickson allowed just two hits and walked just one, while striking out 12 in seven shutout innings. Ava Frost finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Audrey Asleson went 2-for-3 to lead the Century offense.

Makena Malecha went 6-for-6 with four RBIs, while Olivia Hohrman went 3-for-4 with a homer and seven RBIs as Northfield beat John Marshall 34-0.

Lauren Kreckow tossed a one hit shutout and Olivia Poulin blasted a three-run home run as Winona secured at least a share of the Big Nine Conference title with a 10-0 win over Mayo. Kreckow struck out 13 in seven scoreless innings, while Poulin finished 2-for-5 with a double as well as her homer along with four RBIs.

Zoie Roush homered and Kennedy Hodgman was solid in the circle in Owatonna's 6-4 victory over Albert Lea. Hodgman went seven innings, allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits with six strikeouts. She also had an RBI triple.

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

• With a 6-3 win over Byron, Stewartville clinched a share of the HVL title with Kasson-Mantorville. Kayle Byrne went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Savannah Hedin and Veronica Mitchell each had a double with an RBI for Stewartville. Sydney Klar was stellar in the circle, giving up three runs — two earned — on five hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Mackenzie Steele hit a two-run home run and Kaydence Fjerstad hit a solo shot for Byron.

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

Lauren Waller allowed a first inning run, before following it with 13 scoreless innings as St. Charles walked off Dover-Eyota in 14 innings for the 2-1 victory. Waller allowed 13 hits, but just the one run as she struck out a pair in 14 innings. Emma Chuchna scored the game-winning run on an error after leading off with a single. Kegan Coulson threw the ball well for D-E, going 13 1/3 with nine strikeouts.

Avery Augedahl tripled twice and drove in three runs, and Adrienne Lange finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI as Caledonia clinched a Three Rivers Conference title with an 11-1 win over Lewiston-Altura.

Braelle Horsman and Kendall Knutson each had three hits and two doubles in Chatfield's 13-2 win over Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Those two each drove in a run and combined to score four for a Gophers offense that finished with 13 runs on 13 hits.

Cassandra Boyum finished a combined 6-for-8 with three doubles and three RBIs to help Rushford-Peterson sweep Fillmore Central/Lanesboro in a doubleheader by scores of 10-1 and 9-7. Shelby Tesch also had a solid day for the Trojans. She went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple in Game 2 after going 1-for-3 with an RBI in Game 1.

SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE

Emerson Ingvalson and Brinley Middendorf each drove in a pair of runs as Spring Grove knocked off Schaeffer Academy 11-4. Middendorf also earned the win in the circle, allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Julia Swenson finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored as Houston beat Mabel-Canton 5-1. Emily Botcher earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. Kira Snyder went 2-for-3 with an RBI double for M-C.

NON-CONFERENCE

Maya Roschen led an offense that tallied 13 hits, going 3-for-3, and Emma Voth was solid in the circle as Goodhue beat Triton 12-0. Voth allowed just two hits and struck out 13 in five shutout innings.

Caitlyn Lerum, Sophia Polzer and Kiley Passow all finished with three hits in Pine Island's 9-2 win over Hayfield. Lerum drove in a pair of runs and also picked up the win in the circle, giving up two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

ROCHESTER ALL-CITY MEET

Sebastian Bari swept the 100- and 200-meter run, setting a personal best 10.76 seconds in the 100 and a 22.28 in the 200 as Mayo won the Rochester All-City Meet with a score of 84 points. Carter Holcomb won the 300 hurdles (42.19) and he — along with Bari — was a part of Mayo’s 4x100 relay team. The Spartans finished first in the 4X200 and 4X800 relays as well. Lucas Peterson won the pole vault (13 feet) and Adam Myren won the high jump (6-06). Century finished second with 64.5 points. Shaun Wysocki won the long jump (22-6.25) and lept a personal best 46-7.75 to capture the triple jump title. John Marshall finished third with 38.5 points. Donovan Reed finished first in the discus (131-03), while Jaden Anderson won the 1600 (4:49.2) and Philip Dahlen the 3200 (10:19.76).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

ROCHESTER ALL-CITY MEET

Clara Gerhard brought home the 100 (12.94) and 200 (26.78) titles, Sophia Comfere won the 400 (57.35), Sophia Trabuco won the 800 and Adeline Crow captured the 1600 (5:34.18) title to help Century finish first in the Rochester All-City meet with 100 points. The Panthers won the 4X100 and 4X200 relays as well, while Cecilia Kesselring won the 300 hurdles title. The Panthers also had Temitope Amusan win the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, in addition to Brooklyn Baudoin winning the high jump (4-10), Madeleine Schmidt placing first in the pole vault (9-0) and Nell Ferguson winning the triple jump (34-10.75). Mayo finished second with 54 points. Eighth-grader Maggie Dyer won the 100 hurdles (16.24) and the Spartans 4X400 relay team also finished first. John Marshall finished with 32 points. Abi Tri won the 3200 (10:57.4), Bea Hoyme placed first in the discus (105-07) and Maysen Pettengill won the long jump with a leap of 15-07.5.

BOYS GOLF

NON-CONFERENCE

Brennan Weckwerth tied for second with a 72 to help Century take third at the 13-team Owatonna Invitational with a score of 313. St. Peter posted a winning score of 303. Braxton Berlin shot a 72 for Lake City, which finished eighth.
