If The Super Mario Bros Movie sequel needs a Wario, Danny DeVito is your man.

In an interview with The Movie Dweeb about Poolman, DeVito was asked about playing Wario in a Super Mario Bros sequel. He seemed “up for” it.

“You never know what happens in the world. I'm up for a lot of things. Up for,” DeVito explained. “I'm ready to do a lot of things. So, whatever's coming, I look at, I see, I evaluate.”

After the interviewer joked that he'll let Super Mario Bros star Chris Pratt know, DeVito supported it. “Yeah, let 'em know. You should tell that I'm gonna take them to the cleaners, but that I should be in the movie,” he said with a laugh.

What is The Super Mario Bros Movie?

The Super Mario Bros Movie was one of the biggest films of 2023. It grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide which was second to Barbie ($1.4 billion). That meant that it out-grossed the likes of Oppenheimer ($974 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($845 million), and Fast X ($704 million).

Chris Pratt led the voice cast as Mario and Charlie Day voiced Luigi. Anya Taylor-Joy and Jack Black voiced Princess Peach and Bowser, respectively. The ensemble also featured the likes of Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, and Fred Armisen.

The duo of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the film based on a script from Matthew Fogel. It was the latest iteration of the Mario franchise on the big screen. In 1993, Super Mario Bros was released and was a disaster. At least the new film turned the franchise around.

A sequel feels inevitable. Getting Danny DeVito to voice Wario would be a huge get for the already-star-studded cast. He isn't a stranger to the voice-acting realm. DeVito has previously voiced roles in Hercules, The Lorax, Smallfoot, The One and Only Ivan, and Migration.
