Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell Wage Wedding War in Hilarious Trailer for You’re Cordially Invited

The new comedy is on Prime Video Jan. 30, 2025

Get ready for an all-out wedding war between Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell.

Debuting on Prime Video Jan. 30, 2025, You're Cordially Invited stars Witherspoon, 48, and Ferrell, 56, as warring representatives of two different weddings accidentally double booked at the same venue.

As its synopsis indicates, "When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues and disaster awaits.”

A new teaser trailer reveals some of that chaos, with Witherspoon’s character attempting to plan the perfect wedding for her sister (played by Meredith Hagner) and Ferrell’s character doing the same for the nuptials of his daughter (Geraldine Viswanathan) — while contending with cramped rooms, disgruntled guests and a live alligator.

You're Cordially Invited is written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, who brought comedies Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors and Bros to the big screen.

The trailer shows glimpses of Witherspoon and Ferrell’s costars, which include Celia Weston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Leanne Morgan, Stony Blyden, Rory Scovel, Ramona Young and Jimmy Tatro. Jack McBrayer plays the resort concierge who reveals the mix-up at the island off the Georgia coast.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar last year, Witherspoon reflected on starring in and producing comedies like You’re Cordially Invited and her 2023 Ashton Kutcher rom-com Your Place or Mine. “I think the human capacity to handle as much heartbreak and tragedy that’s happened in the world is really diminished,” she said at the time.

“I think of opportunities to make movies and television shows that are joyful, optimistic, funny … I think about what I want to see on a Friday night, and while I can appreciate a true-crime show or a podcast, I really need some levity. I think the world is looking for a little brightness.”

Morgan, a comedian who like Witherspoon hails from Tennessee, told PEOPLE in September that everyone on her first feature film “answered my questions. They were so sweet and uplifting. I fell in love with everybody on that set, from the craftsmen that were cooking, to the little PAs.”

Witherspoon, “a living doll,” added Morgan, suggested her for the role of her older sister. “That little thing believes in me.”
