RPM inspired by Lost?

This may sound ridiculous, but I just wonder if Power Rangers RPM may have some level been inspired by Lost. It's the only season that I remember of all the main characters reglulalrly having flashbacks to their past, and they all had different issues and traumas. Dr. K, the blue ranger, red ranger's father blaming him for his brother's death. The drama is way more elevated and mature than most Power Rangers iterations. Only really comparable to Time Force, maybe parts of In Space. I think I recall Eddie Guzelian saying movies like Mad Max were an inspiration for the barren desert setting look and muscle cars. But I"ve never heard anyone else say it reminds them of Lost. Even the way each episode ends reminds me of Lost, the sound effect before the end the end title screen which Power Rangers doesn't usually have.

Obviously on the surface these shows are nothing alike. I just see some slight similarities and it aired during Lost's run.

I think RPM was mostly inspired by classic dystopias like Logan's Run.

I think it took from multiple things. But I say Lost because it was airing at the same time and the way flashbacks were utilized were similar. And the musical cue at the end of every episode is basically the same.

I think RPM is inspired by Mad Max, Terminator, and partially LOST maybe.

TIL Lost invented flashbacks

It's not just flashbacks and I never claimed Lost invented them. It's how they are used and the significance of them in a similar fashion. Flashbacks were a very core important part of Lost. They are the main characteristic trope of the series. We had entire episodes focused on all the new rangers where a significant chunk of the episode devoted to the ranger's past and how they got there, switching back and forth. That *was* a new thing with Lost Usually when we have flashbacks in shows it's like one or two, not half the episode. I can't remember if they did this through all of RPM but the episodes focused on the core three rangers and Dr K. were very similar to Lost. And even if it wasn't Lost was airing at the time and was insanely popular. Power Rangers to my knowledge- and I've seen ever single episode of the franchise-never had a season where every single ranger and mentor got flashbacks and had entire episodes focused on those flashbacks and how it connects back to the present until RPM. As I said even some of the musical cues especially at the end titles. That's practically lifted directly from Lost.. I've read that Orange is the New Black is similar and uses them as much but that came out after Lost. In Space had some like when Andros' sister is kidnapped, when Zhane is hurt. But most episodes have none at all and Power Rangers was never known for them. But then RPM all the sudden when Lost is at it's most relevance they give all the characters flashbacks and they are key to the story and their characters. For example Shannon's character and flashbacks are quite similar to Summer's pre-ranger/before Venjix went live flashbacks.

I watch a lot of TV but obviously haven't seen everything. What other shows before Lost used flashbacks that much in just about every episode if not every episode and were so significant to the story and themes that was as well known and popular as Lost was? I know it's fallen out of relevancy over time, somewhat due to many people's failure to understand the ending. But at the time it was huge and RPM airs at the same time and uses basically the same music cue at the end of the episode which works so well with episodes with twists or cliffhangers. At the very least that music cue was almost certainly taken from Lost and changed slightly to not infringe copyright. edlt: wouldn't need to because same parent company

I could be wrong, could be coincidence. But I'd be surprised if at least one of the writers didn't take some inspiration because it was a change to the entire format of Power Rangers, at least for the flashback heavy episodes introducing the main characters. I haven't watched it in nearly 15 years so I can't say if all episodes were this way.

That's like saying because Mad Max didn't invent muscle cars and sandy locations that RPM wasn't inspired by Mad Max but it was. Obviously on the surface the shows are nothing alike, a kid's show vs a primetime mystery sci fi drama. Also Power Rangers isn't really like Mad Max either, but inspiration can be drawn from anything. Found this on TV Tropes: Flashback: The flashback episodes and the end-of-episode title cards may be a Shout-Out to a certain other show that plays on ABC.
So I'm not the only person who thinks this.

Also of note but doesn't mean anything Walt watches an episode of Power Rangers SPD on Lost.

It would be interesting if Power Rangers had an LOST-style series. Interesting to have an surivial game show type action-drama series where it has the theme of teamwork and exploring more themes into that series. It would be interesting though.
