The first playthrough enemies weren't ready for guns. You may also find that most bosses do not have the logic to address ranged combat (until the 3rd DLC when they almost all have a way to address it) and will walk slowly toward their death as you shoot or Bifrost them to death.
And to make matters worse (better), Marksman's 1st aiming link restores MP when dealing magic damage. (Aiming by holding normal attack, then making sure Starlight is on the first slot).
