Mary Ellen Cannon OBITUARY

Cannon, Mary Ellen, of Ocean Ridge, FL, and Muskegon, MI, passed away March 8, 2010, surrounded by her family while in the care of Hospice of Palm Beach County at Bethesda Memorial Hospital. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she graduated from Beverly Hills High School and attended Stanford University in California. She married George W. Cannon Jr. of Muskegon, Michigan, on St. Patrick’s Day 1954 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Santa Barbara, California. They made their home in Muskegon and raised six children on Mona Lake. They moved to Ocean Ridge, FL in the 1980s. Mary Ellen was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s then St. Francis deSales in Michigan and St. Mark’s in Boynton Beach, Florida. A life-long gardener, craftsperson and sportswoman, Mary Ellen maintained interests in theater, travel, art, foreign languages, medical research and alternative medicine. She will be remembered for her laughter, compassion, charity, creativity and sense of adventure. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, George W. Cannon Jr.; daughters, Katharine “K.T.” (Bill Eger) Cannon-Eger of Keaau, HI, Christine (John Bucher) Cannon Bucher of Hillsboro Beach, FL, Constance “Kiki” Cannon of Englewood, CO, and Carolyn Cannon of Chicago, IL; sons, George (Lori) W. Cannon III of Muskegon, MI and Timothy James (Amy) Cannon of Telluride, CO; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass Saturday, March 13, at 10 a.m. St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL. Services in Muskegon, MI, will be held later this summer.
