Men's Lacrosse Heads to Dickinson for Saturday's NCAA Tournament Second Round Matchup

Following a thrilling 10-9 victory over John Carroll in first round action on Wednesday, The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (14-7) will hit the road to battle Dickinson (16-2) in Saturday's second round with start time slated for 12 p.m. at Biddle Field in Carlisle.

Saturday's winner will advance to Sunday's third round matchup to take on the winner of Middlebury/SUNY Geneseo.

Tickets for Saturday's game are $5 for adults and $3 for children with those under 12 admitted free of charge. Cash or Venmo will be accepted at the gate.

Senior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) scored the game-winner just 1:07 into overtime and the Royals earned the first NCAA Tournament win in program history with the 10-9 victory over the Blue Streaks. Fellow senior Kyle Bennett (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had tied the game with 2:12 left in regulation and sophomore goalie Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y./Millbrook) added a late save to send the game to overtime.

The Royals and Red Devils met back on Feb. 24 of this season with the Red Devils capturing a 12-9 victory.

Sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) leads the Royals on the year with 52 goals, while McAree is tops on the team with 70 points on 46 goals and 24 assists. As a whole, head coach Michael Hofmeister's team features five goals with 20 or more goals as freshman Myles McCutcheon (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) who has added 45 goals.

McAree is the program's all-time leading scorer with 133 goals and ranks second all-time with 212 points.

Junior defender Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) has 34 caused turnovers to lead the way and graduate student Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) has added 88 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Allen made 11 saves in Wednesday's victory over John Carroll and has allowed 10 goals or less in each of his last seven games.

Skyler Schluter paces Dickinson with 50 points on 15 goals and 35 assists and Owen Porter is the team's top goal scorer with 36.

Defensively, the Red Devils are led by Xander Usich with 34 caused turnovers and has added 48 ground balls. Patrick Scarborough has started 17 games in goal and has posted a 9.43 goals against average with a .537 save percentage.
