The 66-year-old actor was attacked by a stranger in Midtown Manhattan.

A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault for allegedly punching Boardwalk Empire actor Steve Buscemi in New York City earlier this month.

Clifton Williams, 50, was taken into custody and charged around 2:20 p.m. local time at the 13th Precinct in Midtown Manhattan on May 17, the New York Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. His arrest comes three days after authorities identified Williams as a suspect in the May 8 assault case.

Buscemi, 66, was walking in Manhattan when the incident occurred. "Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” the actor's publicist told EW. "He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY.”

Police told EW that officers responded to a 911 call at around 11:48 a.m. and were informed that the victim was punched in the face by an unidentified individual. The attacker — who was last seen wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, black pants and white sneakers — had already fled the scene.

The Fargo actor was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye.

Buscemi’s assault comes a month after his Boardwalk Empire costar, Michael Stuhlbarg, was also the victim of a random NYC assault. Stuhlbarg was struck in the neck with a rock while on the Upper East Side, and chased the assailant out of Central Park where he was taken into custody and charged with assault.
