Summary

  • Good Omens' Kickstarter reveals new art of David Tennant and Michael Sheen as Crowley and Aziraphale.
  • The Good Omens Kickstarter shattered records with $3M+ raised by fans for a new graphic novel adaptation.
  • Fans flocked to back the project, with over 10,000 new Kickstarter users joining for the first time.

As Good Omens' World Record-shattering Kickstarter confirms it's on track for 2025, the campaign has revealed a jaw-dropping tribute to actors David Tennant and Michael Sheen, who play the demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale in Amazon's adaptation of the original Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman novel. The actors will be penning a foreword for the project (which was fully funded in just 10 minutes) along with Jon Hamm, who plays Gabriel in the TV show. Pledge rewards for the Kickstarter included art depicting the pair as their characters.

In an announcement on Kickstarter, the Terry Pratchett Estate revealed that the new Good Omens graphic novel is still heading for a Spring 2025 publication date, drawn and adapted by Colleen Doran. The announcement also reveals David Aja's print for the Serpent Tier and above. David Aja is the celebrated artist behind works such as The Seeds, The Immortal Iron Fist and the critically acclaimed Hawkeye, sharing the new print on X.

The print shows Crowley, Aziraphale and the hellhound Dog sitting on a bench, using David Tennant and Michael Sheen's likenesses. Drawn in Aja's inimitable style, it's the kind of tribute fans could only dream of when the book was first published in 1990.

Good Omens Reveals New Print for Graphic Novel Kickstarter

Fans Shattered Kickstarter Records to Back the New Adaptation

Fans will be excited to have more news on the campaign, which saw 36,867 backers pledge $3,027,398.32 despite the initial goal of just $31,843 (£25,000 in Gaiman and Pratchett's native UK.) The Terry Pratchett Estate revealed that according to its metrics, over 10,000 people joined Kickstarter for the first time in order to back the Good Omens comic, netting the world record for the highest funded first day for a comic on Kickstarter, most backers for a comic project ever and most funded graphic novel on Kickstarter.

In March 2024, Oni Press' Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse broke Good Omens' record for being the Kickstarter comic project to hit its initial goal faster, being fully-funded within just six minutes. However, it's worth noting that the project's goal was significantly smaller, initially set at $10,000.

While fans may love David Tennant and Michael Sheen's portrayals of their characters, the graphic novel will feature its own versions of Crowley and Aziraphale, with artist Colleen Doran revealing to CBR that she stopped watching the Amazon show in order to not be influenced by its take on Pratchett and Gaiman's story.

When I knew I was getting this project, I immediately stopped watching the show to make sure I cleared as much of it from my head as possible and stuck to only what was written on the page. It was a task, let me say because I'd watched that show dozens of times. When I was feeling down, I just played it on a loop.

Fans' support of Good Omens shows how beloved the story and its characters are, and while the graphic novel may be going for its own take, David Aja's art shows how important David Tennant and Michael Sheen have been to the story's resurgence.
