Pune: A man, under the influence of alcohol, created a ruckus at Muktewadi Chowk in Chakan around 10.45pm on Sunday when he damaged the windscreen of a car and beat up its driver.
The Chakan police booked him under Section 85 (penalty for being drunk and for disorderly behaviour) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
“The alleged offender is a water tanker driver.
Our men were told about the incident by some passersby. The man was under the influence of alcohol,” DA Burud, a Chakan police officer, said.
The man came to the chowk and started abusing passersby, he said. “He came in front of a car and alleged that the car driver tried to knock him down. He then beat up the driver and smashed the windscreens of the car. The police took him into custody before he could do more damage. Later, a medical test at the Chakan Rural Hospital confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol,” Burud said.
In a similar incident in June last year, a 32-year-old printing press operator was arrested by the Vishrambaug police for allegedly abusing and assaulting a beat marshal, who urged him not to create nuisance at a bar in Ravivar Peth around 2am on June 16, 2023.
According to the police, the beat marshal, Abhijit Gonjari and his colleague were on night patrol duty when they heard noises from the bar and approached the man.
