Is 30th anniversary content leaving Destiny 2 in 2023?

Based on official statements from Bungie, the beloved 30th anniversary content will remain available in Destiny 2 through at least 2022. However, there has been no confirmation yet on whether it will enter the Destiny Content Vault (DCV) in 2023.

What is the 30th Anniversary Content?

The 30th anniversary content for Destiny 2 launched on December 7, 2021 to commemorate Bungie‘s 30th anniversary as a game development studio. It added several new activities and gear to Destiny 2, including:

  • Dares of Eternity 6-player activity
  • New Exotic Weapons:
    • Forerunner scout rifle and its ornament
    • BxR-55 Battler pulse rifle
    • 1K Yard Stare sniper rifle
  • Three new armor sets themed after Bungie‘s past games Myth and Marathon
  • New dungeon activity called Grasp of Avarice
  • Special cosmetics like streetwear armor ornaments and flaming helmets

This content is not tied to any specific Destiny 2 expansion. Players must purchase the 30th Anniversary Pack DLC to access it.

Will the 30th Anniversary Content Enter the DCV?

When asked if the 30th anniversary content will enter the Destiny Content Vault (DCV) in the future, Bungie stated:

"Bungie‘s 30th anniversary celebration will extend through 2022. All of that content, free and paid, is here to stay in that timeframe."

This suggests the content will be available for all of 2022 at minimum.

However, Bungie did not confirm availability beyond 2022. Typically most limited-time content and seasonal releases enter the DCV within 1-2 years after launch to make room for new expansions.

For example, Season of the Lost content like the Wayfinder‘s Compass and Shattered Realm from late 2021 will leave the game when Lightfall launches in 2023. Ongoing recurring events like Festival of the Lost or Dawning are exceptions that return annually.

So while not guaranteed, there is a reasonable chance 30th anniversary content could leave Destiny 2 sometime in 2023. Players should enjoy the activities and loot while they remain just to be safe!

Should You Buy the 30th Anniversary Pack?

Based on Bungie‘s 2022 timeframe, I believe the 30th Anniversary Pack is still worthwhile for most Destiny 2 players interested in the new dungeon activity or exclusive loot.

The cosmetics and weapons especially are enticing for collectors and hardcore players. For example, the Forerunner scout rifle and its catalyst are still strong options in high-level PvE content even after recent nerfs:

Casual players may want to wait for a sale on the 30th Anniversary Pack given the uncertain DCV timeframe. But for dedicated Destiny fans and collectors, the content adds gameplay variety worth the $25 asking price in my opinion.

In summary, while Bungie could choose to keep this beloved content indefinitely, we simply have no confirmation beyond 2022. My advice is enjoy the nostalgic weapons and activities while you still can, guardians!
