There's a lack of rep for tweenage trans guys
This came to mind to me while watching the "Dear God, It's Me Margaret" film.
It's a great film and might be even better than the original book. It has a multi generational appeal despite taking place over fifty years ago. It's nostalgic and relatable... but at the time feels weird since I'm not a cis girl. I went through that same stage in life but had a very different view on it.
There's not much media out there featuring preteen trans boys. Whether they're in the closet, on hormone blockers, hit AFAB puberty before coming out, whatever. There's not much on this age group period.
Most stuff featuring trans boys feature 15+ year old protagonists. The few stuff featuring younger characters tend to be younger than 10, like in picture books or in kid's books. There's not that many middle grade media featuring trans boys. Even memoirs largely skip over this age group.
The only ones I can think of are:
-
Welcome To St Hell (iirc, this memoir is mainly about teenagers but gives note to his tween years too)
-
The Other Boy (book about a 11 year old trans boy, but also deals with being outed and transphobic bullying)
-
The Pants Project (a book about a trans boy coming out, amongst other stuff)
-
Wandering Son (which is.... complicated since the character
detransitions and may or may not be trans )
I really liked Welcome To St. Hell. It's more relatable than most trans guy memoirs I've read.
I know of a few other books but the characters are nonbinary. There's a surprising amount of middle grade media starring and co-starring nonbinary characters.
I haven't watched it but Cowboys is on Netflix and might fit what you are looking for.
