He also said 9/11 wouldn't have happened if he was on board. 🙃

But please folks continue defending him because he was a kid.

u/totallycalledla-a avatar

Oh I think he could have stopped 9/11. Not in a hero way though. In a "violent rage because there are 4 POC in first class" way.

u/Freethrowawayer avatar

He defenitly would be able to stop it. Before the plane even took off he would have started fighting them.

u/Hlregard avatar

He probably would have chased them and thrown rocks at them yelling slurs

He was a kid and his actions could be justified with a bad upbringing, but him treating people like garbage well into his adulthood is inexcusable. Dude should have been canceled and forgotten about years ago. Instead we have him and his dumb brothers making millions.

He also attacked two Vietnamese men. He is trash.

Yeah this story isn't really a secret in and out of Hollywood.

Might not be super common knowledge though.

Same as Dr Dre and his issues with women going way back. (His Wikipedia has an entire section dedicated to "Violence Against Women)

u/Spindoendo avatar

Funny how an entire movie was made about a bunch of women abusers and, surprise surprise, it was completely ignored/glossed over. Fuck Straight Outta Compton.

u/Narrow_Smoke avatar

Well Check who Produced it. I really like nwa but this movie felt like white washing

u/john_thundergunnn avatar

What was glossed over in the film they would paint them in a negative light?

Let's stay on topic.

Wahlberg is a douche and 3/4.

More replies

One of them is also blind due to his attack.

u/areallyreallycoolhat avatar

This obviously isn't a defence of Mark and in fact makes it worse - the victim wasn't blinded in the attack, he was already blind in one eye when Mark attacked him

u/trialanderrorschach avatar

Phew, I thought he was a violent racist who maimed someone but turns out he's just a violent racist who attacks disabled people. Cancellation cancelled. 🫡

u/areallyreallycoolhat avatar

You must have missed where I said it wasn't a defence of him and if anything makes it worse? Simply a correction.

That was the rumor for a while but it was debunked. He was already blind in one eye before the attack.

WHAT THE F*CK. How is he allowed to appear in any entertainment media?

He forgave himself. That's not even a joke.

Because he’s a white man.

And even more to the point — he made people money. He was a marketable violent criminal.

Dr. Dre is an example of a non white man that has done horrific things to women and is still revered in the public.

Chris Brown? Dr Dre? OJ?

Idk. Seems like he was a shitty kid and has grown as a person since then. It happens.

Society has to make room for redemption if we want to succeed.

Unlike, for instance, Chris Brown. He has never given a sincere apology nor changed his life for the better.

He just may be permanent, complete trash.

Love,

-A Realistic Black Woman

“Was trash”. He was a member of a gang in Boston. Was arrested for these crimes. Served his time in prison. Got out. Bettered himself and now does a lot of work to fix his former wrongs. We know all this because he put it out there.People can change.

u/DigLost5791 avatar

Please correct me if I’m mistaken but didn’t he only apologize for it when his prior history made getting liquor licenses for his restaurants difficult and he applied for a Pardon?

I’m old. I read all about it back in the Funky Bunch days. It’s been open knowledge for years.

u/DigLost5791 avatar

The information has been public but I believe he did not apologize until it interfered with his ability to do business

45 days in jail isn't prison

More replies

He only did “apologize and put it out there” when his past came back to haunt him and prevented him from getting a liquor license for Wahlburgers. It was particularly crappy that it was our Black governor, Duval Patrick, that had to get that pardon just for him and his brother to open their restaurants. I have never frequented them because it was for show imo. He never publicly apologized or acknowledged it until it prevented him from making money in MA. Also, sure…you can forgive people for shitty behavior but the victims of said abuse are under no obligation to forgive him or his brother, especially considering his brother is with Jenny anti-vax McCarthy, so still shitty people. I do not want to eat or give money to people who violently abused Asian men, one who was a veteran, and Black kids and so I don’t.

One of them helped him hide from the cops and mark beat him with a weapon after the cops run through

IIRC he was high on some drugs when he did it.

I’m from close by Boston and moved to Michigan and told one of my new coworkers about his multiple arrests and history of racism and she had the nerve to say “you shouldn’t go around just making these things up” and I just laughed out loud at her.

I told someone about his attacks when they mentioned “why would anyone hate Marky Mark?” and their response was “no one is perfect”

That is not the proper response to hate crimes, Judy!!!!

Fr that’s like saying you would stop 9/11 if you were on the plane. Smh my head you can’t say things like that

I’m from Michigan and just moved to the North Shore last fall. I’m painfully aware that those things aren’t made up. I love Boston, but it really is racist in a way that was unexpected for such a large, politically liberal city.

u/Bbbiienymph avatar

Boston's public schools were legally segregated up until like the late 1970s. they call it the busing crisis.

I’m from the North Shore and while I was quite uninteractive with the world, my mom (a Black woman) has STORIES to tell. We moved west, near Framingham and honestly, even though we are in a boujee area, they are way nicer here. Not unscathed but like the general community feels like they have my back? If that makes sense.

I grew up in Framingham too ♥️ love the community. I am white but most of my friends were Latino or Brazilian. Nicest people ever. Totally different than Boston for sure

More replies

Well, MLK told everyone that white moderates and liberals are actually more racist than your stereotypical southern white racist. We don’t see that quote being put up everywhere on MLk day. Boston is heavily segregated to this day and I definitely get looks when I am in spaces racists don’t think I should be in

I don't think he said they were more racist, just their inaction and calls for moderation effectively continue to enable it.

Which actually makes them worst. Because they actually impede you with the delusions as you said

I first came to the city as a travel nurse and was staying in an AirBnB in East Boston. I don’t like Walmart but being from the Midwest I decided to just seek one out for groceries on my first day (not knowing that Boston WM are much smaller than Midwestern WM). The nearest one was in Lynn and the looks I got while shopping—nothing rude, but I got the distinct impression that the predominately Latin American clientele did not understand why I was there, and did not trust me. Not saying they’re racist, just saying that now I can understand why they thought my pale, Celtic-looking self was odd in that space.

Being from a pretty conservative city (Grand Rapids) I feel like Boston is incredibly diverse but I am also starting to notice the segregation the longer I live here. It’s still not as bad as where I’m from though. Kind of reminds me of Detroit, actually.

More replies

Yeah the blatant racism surprised me too. I went to college in Boston after growing up in a liberal Southern California beach town. The bigotry and pressure to conform, even from other gen z kids, was more of a shock than the cold weather

I am from Finland recently red an article from a woman who went to US in 2016 as exchange student to Washington to state. She was biracial black girl and wanted to go somewhere where people looked more like her. She was pretty shocked how both white and black people were criticizing her for sitting in cafeteria tables with white people. And because she didn’t lisen to stereotypically black music. I didn’t know that even seemingly liberal states in US still internally segregate like that in US, movies give more rosier view of US diversity.

This is the article but it’s in Finnish, and it’s also more about 2016 regarding Trump in US overall and also about our country  https://yle.fi/a/74-20086683

I told someone about Jack Nicholson beating a hooker for daring to charge him after he slept with her and she told me a dirty liar.

I got scolded once for “throwing around really serious accusations” about Ezra Miller choking a fan.

Then the big public meltdown happened lmao

Truly, I loathe this guy. The fact that he still has a career makes me want to spit.

His character in Daddy’s Home…. Can’t stand this motherfucker. He probably think he’s that guy IRL

I've always had the ick for him and I never knew why. My gut was right.

Dude just exudes bully that got lucky and made it big energy

He’s a terrible person that hides behind Christianity.

Tale as old as time

More replies

Love how he records himself kissing his comically large & gaudy crystal cross statue and then kneeling and praying to it. It’s what Jesus would’ve wanted.

Jesus taught, “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.”

Another Christian who doesn't read the instructions very well.

Jesus also taught his followers “do not think I have come to bring peace to the earth I bring not peace but a sword for I have come to turn mother against daughter father against son and a persons enemies shall be those of this own household”

🫡 let’s face it religion is a tool to tools, you use what you want to brow beat and judge others but your entire faith system is meaningless

My entire faith system? Or is that faulty wording? I have no dog in this fight from the faith side. I just like using the bible to show the fallacy of bible users.

Not just Christianity, he’s hardcore catholic …

He gave us (his daughter’s classmates) silicone bracelets blessed by the pope after he met him in 7th grade. Our catholic school teachers were very enthused (they did some metaphorical dick riding) and 7th grade me thought it was cool but at the same time I knew some of what was going on with him behind closed doors so I kind of got the ick. It was kind of a joke between us lol.

He was nice to us (we were children; bare minimum) but even at 12 years old I saw how a lot of what was going on behind the scenes was wrong and hypocritical. The way he was presented in the media was laughable and so inauthentic.

He’s a Cristian? With a name like something-berg??!!?

And that’s just one of the racially motivated attacks listed in his wiki…

I avoid his movies and I don’t understand his appeal at all.

u/__lavender avatar

Yup occasionally one of my coworkers will mention a movie they loved but I didn’t see it. It’s almost always got either Mark Wahlberg or Jared Leto in it and all I can say is “yeah that’s why I haven’t seen it.”

And then they ask you why and you tell them and it gets super awkward.

u/__lavender avatar

Eh. I’m lucky in that the vast majority of my coworkers are very progressive (and younger than me) so I know they’ll understand my view even if they don’t personally decide to also boycott those actors’ movies. But yeah that’s definitely a “read the room” sort of scenario.

No reason to boycott when you torrent his movies anyway. 😆

Marky Markkk and the violent bunch

edit: too many people excusing racism and violence because “stupid kid behaviour”. Yall motherfuckers are telling on yourself.

If he was black, they would have locked him up at 16. Dudes were getting 20 years for selling dope and he gets a slap on the wrist for multiple assaults.
