Books set in California coastal town

I’m looking for books set in either Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur or something with a similar feeling. Kind of cold and dreary beach town. I’m currently reading The Last House Guest which is set in Maine but has the vibe I’m looking for, lots of atmospheric descriptions of the coastal town while still being a mystery/thriller. I would prefer something in that genre but I’m open to whatever! Thank you in advance.

John Steinbeck seems as the obvious choice, like Cannery Row or Tortilla Flat.

Add in Sweet Thursday and OP has Steinbeck's Monterey Trilogy.

Thank you. I read Cannery Row so I’ll have to check out these other two as well.

Oh yes Big Little Lies is the perfect vibe. I’ll look into Daisy Darker! Thank you.

Henry Miller wrote a memoir about life in Big Sur.
