TVLINE | The series finale begins with a seven-year time jump. Knowing that there were so many more stories that you could have told over additional seasons, were you excited about the prospect of flashing forward and seeing where everyone wound up?
OLOWOFOYEKU | I was really excited about that. I couldn’t comprehend what the writers would choose to do with this episode, but going into the future, and getting that opportunity to see these characters that you’ve been invested in for the last five years — seeing how they turned out, and seeing that they turned out so beautifully — was such a smart decision.
GARDELL | It really let us land the plane in a beautiful way, and we got to bring the entire cast back. Because of economics, we couldn’t have everybody in every [Season 5 episode], so we tried to service a few people each week, just to keep us all connected. But to get us all back on the final show to see where they had matured, where Bob and Abishola had settled, what happened with Dele and how he had matured, and to give a nod to where they’re going and what they had also accomplished [was perfect]. The big one, I think, is Abishola becoming a pediatrician… You see that she fulfilled her American dream, and I just think we need more good stuff like that in the air. It’s inspirational.
TVLINE | Folake, how did it feel entering in Abishola’s white coat for the first time and having the studio audience react the way that they did?
OLOWOFOYEKU | Well, my first moment to take it all in was when I saw Abishola’s office. I remember sitting at her desk and looking around, like, “All right, Abi! You did it! We started at the nurse desk, and now you’ve got a nice office.” I had that moment in her office during rehearsal, and it made feel like we accomplished something quite magnificent with this show. But stepping out and seeing the audience members now realize what had transpired… we had a huge ovation, and it was beautiful.
I will miss Bob and Abishola so much! There just aren’t enough shows on TV like this that have both humor and heart! Shows like this, that run over a number of years have so much value. They provide comfort and joy and help get people through tough times. All the best to the amazing cast and crew, Thanks for 5 great seasons!
Well said!
I wasn’t happy about the show ending, I felt there was so much more story to tell. And it’s a beautiful, positive story as said in this article. I enjoyed the episode until they showed the flashbacks. I cried! I’m not a crier, but I will miss this show so much!
TVLine: Just a suggestion for quotes of the week. Chukwuemeka, ‘Chef you!’
The finale was wonderful tying up all the loose ends; however, I would have loved for the show to continue longer but I will definitely watch all the shows again when it goes into syndication. I wish all the actors the best of luck in their future endeavors & can’t wait to see what they’ll all do next!
Same, same, same!
Stupid move to cancel prematurely
Lately it’s the only thing CBS is doing. What an epic fail of a decision really.
TRUTH!
What a lovely end to a series. I have enjoyed this show so much and will miss everyone but they went out on a high note and the ending on the bench was when the sobbing moved to ugly crying. After all, it’s a lesson we all need. It’s the small things in life that count, not the big house, fancy car, etc.
I hated to delete this from my dvr listings and I’m going to miss learning new lessons about Nigerian culture.
I could pick a few nits but all in all I was satisfied, so I won’t. So many series come and go now, and many without a planned finale, that this is now my test: was I emotionally satisfied? Not did the show solve all its unanswered questions, button up all the series’ open plot points, no… I just want to feel closure. I felt it here. I’m satisfied…
So sad it ended but a good ending nonetheless. Just by the tying ups they did you could see the vast number of potential storyline that could have taken them through many more seasons.
Did they ever consider shopping the show?
I have loved the show from the beginning and hate that I will no longer be able to share in the lives of this wonderful couple.
The final show was so perfect.

The final show was so perfect.
I will defimitely watch it in syndication and regret that there are not new episodes…
Just an intelligently, funny, well-written show from start to finish. Pure class, ladies and gents. I am so sorry to see you go…
Chuck Lorre’s Vanity Card said it all! Thank you for the laughs!
Looking forward to Bob hearts abishola to return to another network this is such an excellent show very refreshing and entertaining hopefully many viewers will demand it too
I sure hope that happens!
Just finished watching the last episode with tears in my eyes. Sorry to see it end, it brought enjoyment to my home.
I thought it was a good finale. Glad to see Abishola flourishing as a pediatrician. But I would have liked to see Bob starting a new business that created jobs in his community — that’s what he’s really good at. The last thing we need is another former CEO writing a book of trite advice about what it takes to be a success.
This series finale was beautifully written and executed. It definitely left on a strong note. I am so happy for what Bob Hearts Abishola was able to accomplish. The cast always made me laugh. It will be missed.
Loved this show and so saddened to see it end!!
A case could be made it went 1 or 2 seasons too long, I liked the show for the first few seasons but after awhile it lost its energy and became a paint by numbers sit come
From its very beginning, this premise could have gone wrong in so many ways, but it never did. This is network television comedy at its best!
I still don’t understand why they got rid of the show. The actors were great, the storylines were great. It was something to look forward to on Monday nights. These network honcho really don’t want some people to feel comfortable and happy.
Such a beautiful series finale. I cried. I loved the time jump and having the opportunity to see where all of these beloved characters ended up. Well done. I will miss Bob ❤️ Abishola so much.
I really really hate that this show had to end. The higher ups who did this are jerks ( and I am being nice ) every character in this show was excellent. I loved the concept and they made me laugh so much every week. I wish nothing but the worst for whoever canceled this show 😡 and all the love in the world for the cast of Bob ❤️ Abishola You will all be missed. 😢
One complaint, and one only. Other than the series ending, of course. We didn’t see the end of Ogechi’s story. I think a better FF for Kemi would be for her and Chukwuemeka’s mother to be running the food truck, bickering over the food/recipes like they always did. Chukwuemeka was always so proud of being a pharmacist – it didn’t seem a natural progression for him.
I loved this show and hate that it’s ended. The finale show was great. Everyone on the show are so great. Thank you all💜💜
This was such a cute and refreshing show to watch and i’m sad this show has ended. But glad that it was able to tie up loose ends and give everyone a happy ending. I’m going to miss this talented cast.
No series needs over 5/6 seasons. Fight with your mama.
