  • Park Min-young's recent K-drama streak, from What's Wrong With Secretary Kim to Marry My Husband, has been incredible.

Park Min-young’s 2024 K-drama, Marry My Husband, is the perfect callback to one of her most famous characters. From supporting roles to lead characters, Park Min-young’s acting career has only evolved since her TV debut in High Kick! The actress has starred in some of the best K-dramas of her generation and recently returned to the small screen for Marry My Husband, a time travel show currently streaming on Prime Video. Based on a webtoon, Marry My Husband tells the story of Kang Ji-won, who gets to live a second life in the past after being killed by her husband.

Marry My Husband was Park Min-young’s first K-drama in two years. She had been in two shows in 2022, Forecasting Love and Weather and Love Contract, the former of which is already considered a modern classic by many. Park Min-young’s role as Jin Ha-kyung in Forecasting Love and Weather is one of her best, which is why it was difficult not to notice one major parallel between that show and Marry My Husband.

Ji-won’s Story In Marry My Husband Is Similar To Jin Ha-kyun’s In Forecasting Love and Weather

Ji-won and Ha-kyun both found out they’re being cheated on

Ji-won’s story in Marry My Husband starts with the character learning that her husband had been cheating on her with her best friend. To make things worse, Ji-won had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Not only was her husband cheating on her, but he was also counting the days for her to die so that he could receive the insurance money. Marry My Husband takes a surprising turn once Ji-won is sent 10 years into the past and receives a new chance in life, but it all starts with the scene in which she finds out about the cheating.

Curiously, this is also how Ha-kyung’s story begins in Forecasting Love and Weather. Ha-kyung and her fiancé had been together for 10 years, and while they both seemed unsure about their futures, they were expected to get married soon. However, toward the end of Forecasting Love and Weather episode 1, Ha-kyung discovers that her fiancé is cheating on her with a co-worker. Both Marry My Husband and Forecasting Love and Weather saw Park Min-young’s character arriving home early and realizing something was wrong after noticing a strange pair of shoes at the door.

From What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim to Marry My Husband, Park Min-young has been in some amazing K-dramas recently.

How Marry My Husband Compares To Forecasting Love and Weather

Forecasting Love and Weather it’s more grounded than Marry My Husband

Park Min-young in Forecasting Love and Weather and Marry My Husband

Park Min-young shines in both Forecasting Love and Weather and Marry My Husband, but there are some major differences between the shows. Firstly, Marry My Husband’s premise is based on a supernatural, sci-fi element – time travel. Ji-won technically dies midway through episode 1 of Marry My Husband but mysteriously wakes up 10 years into the past. With knowledge of everything that is going to happen from 2013 to 2023, Ji-won uses this as an opportunity to get back at those who did her wrong and rebuild her life from scratch.

Forecasting Love and Weather is a much more grounded series. There are no gimmicks on the show, which helps it stand out from other popular K-drama rom-coms. Forecasting Love and Weather sees the characters dealing with everyday problems and work-life challenges while also trying to balance their romantic relationships. The dynamic between Ha-kyung and Song Kang’s characters is quite different from that of Ji-won and Ji-hyeok in Marry My Husband. That said, both shows see Park Min-young’s character refusing to enter a new relationship after everything that happened in their previous one.

Forecasting Love and Weather and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim are arguably Park Min-young’s most successful shows, but Marry My Husband was a great comeback for the star after two years away from K-dramas. The character arc Ji-won goes through in Marry My Husband is different from anything Park Min-young had done up until that point, although it mirrors her Secretary Kim role in some ways. Park Min-young’s next role after Marry My Husband remains to be announced, but her career already includes some of the last few years’ greatest K-dramas.
