Jitesh Sharma claims PBKS had a nice game “without the overseas players”

PBKS’ Captain Jitesh Sharma  Shades Sam Curran and Jonny Bairstow After Losing IPL 2024 To SRH

19 May 2024 witnessed the 69th match for IPL 2024 between Punjab Kings and Sun Risers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The match was the last league match for both teams in the season.

Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision seemed to be a well-thought one, especially seeing how Sunrisers Hyderabad had lost 2 previous matches while chasing runs. However, it didn’t work out for PBKS who lost the match by 4 wickets.

PBKS batsmen managed to score 214/5 while SRH caught up to their target score of 215 after losing 6 wickets in 19.1 overs. With this, SRH now holds the 2nd spot on the points table, having 17 points to their name.

Did Jitesh shade the English players after  today’s match?

After assuming the temporary captaincy role for PBKS, Jitesh Sharma did well for someone under pressure. The team scored 214 runs which is a milestone on its own.

However, PBKS lost today’s match by 4 wickets considering how SRH has always been a star-performer in the season.

Speaking in the post match segment of the match, Jitesh Sharma revealed how fun it was for the team to be playing today’s match.

One peculiar thing in his statement was how he seemingly “shaded” the England players for abandoning the team in the middle of the season. Sharma said that the team had a nice game “without the overseas players”

“It was fun out there. The boys fought really hard and we enjoyed a lot. Nice game without the overseas players. The discussion won’t help till you imply on the ground. We have to play according to the wicket and plan accordingly.” Sharma said.

Why Jitesh Sharma assumed captaincy today

Sharma led PBKS today after the team’s captain Sam Curran was called back by the England Cricket Board, along with Jonny Bairstow from PBKS and Jos Buttler from Rajasthan Royals to prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and play in the Pakistan Tour of England.

The English cricketers abandoned their respective IPL teams mid-season to cater to “national duty”. This move had also angered veteran Indian legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan.

Amidst all this, Jitesh Sharma was chosen to be a temporary captain for PBKS in the team’s last match of the IPL 2024 season.

With this, PBKS ends their IPL 2024 season, being at the 9th spot on the points table with 10 points to their name.
