I recently purchased a brand new in box Pearl 8120 and have managed to charge the battery back to working condition by plugging the phone into my computer without the battery installed until the no battery screen comes on, then inserting the battery.
When there is no battery installed, plugging in the usb cable into my computer opens the blackberry desktop software and the phone is detected.
I can turn the phone on, but while it is powered on, I cannot charge the battery or connect it to the desktop software. I was hoping someone here would have some idea on how to get the battery charging and the phone communicating with the computer.

The battery probably sat dormant for too long and it's probably depleted below nominal voltage, so the battery may need to be replaced.
However, most computer usb ports only provide a measly 500ma output, which won't be adequate for a battery in this condition. First, try using a usb power adapter with a much higher output rating, then leave it plugged in for at least a day or longer. If that doesn't work, you'll need to replace the battery.
I’ve been able to get the battery charged up to 4.05V measured at the terminals by using the method I described in my post, and the phone status screen reports 75% charge, but while the phone is on I can’t get it to charge or connect to the computer.
Currently all that happens when I plug in any power source (I’ve tried 500mA from the PC all the way up to 2A from a wall charger) while the phone is powered on is it starts to charge for a split second before resetting itself to a red status light and white loading screen.
Then, I recommend getting a replacement battery.
The battery was brand new, so I would expect most replacement batteries available from eBay to be in a similar state. Do you happen to have any idea where I could get a third party battery for the phone?
No idk, try searching using one of the numbers/codes printed on the battery.
