Line of Duty star Brian McCardie's family thanks fans for 'overwhelming support' after tragedy

Just weeks after Scottish actor and Line of Duty star Brian McCardie's death, his heartbroken family have shared a statement thanking family and friends for their ''overwhelming support''.

His sister Sarah McCardie shared a lengthy post on social media revealing McCardie will be laid to rest in a funeral on May 23 at a church in Scotland.

She also revealed her brother Brian died due to an aortic dissection, a tear in the aorta.

Sarah revealed the news on social media, while thanking friends, family and fans.

"The McCardie family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support regarding the sudden passing of Brian James McCardie - beloved son, brother, uncle & friend," she wrote.

"Brian died due to an aortic dissection, causing short pain and a sudden death."

"There will be a funeral mass held on Thursday 23rd May... where we will celebrate Brian's life before he takes his final bow," she wrote.

"One of Scotland's greats on both the stage and the screen," a follower commented underneath.

Sarah, who is an actress, previously confirmed the news of his death in a heartbreaking tribute post to her late sibling, saying he "is gone much too soon".

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many," her post began.

"Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April. A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon."

"We love him and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts."

His representation agency United Agents also confirmed the sad news on X.

McCardie was best known for his work on BBC's Line of Duty, the show Time with Sean Bean, the film Rob Roy co-starring Liam Neeson, and had reportedly recently been filming for Outlander spinoff Blood of My Blood.
