Harry Kane names £12m former Liverpool star as most 'underrated' player he's ever seen

Harry Kane claims that a former Liverpool star is the most underrated player he has ever seen.

Former Tottenham star Kane, now at Bayern Munich, has enjoyed a debut season in Germany, scoring 44 goals and providing 12 assists in 45 games. He has played with and against some world-class players in the Premier League and Bundesliga after calling time on his 14-year spell at Spurs last summer.

But there is one former Reds star that he singled out when quizzed about the most underrated player, in an interview with Goal. After picking Jermaine Defoe as his top goalscorer, Kane selected Jordan Henderson as the most underrated player.

The pair spent many years together at international level for England and Kane knows how talented the former Reds skipper Henderson is both on and off the pitch. The 33-year-old ended a 12-year stint at Anfield in 2023, completing the £12million move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson's move to a country which prohibits same-sex marriage sparked controversy due to him previously insisting he would stand with those in the LGBTQ+ groups, who were experiencing discrimination because of their sexuality. The ex-Reds captain later said his moral remained the same as before his move to Saudi Arabia while apologising to anyone who felt let down.

He said at the time: "Well, I think a lot of people would like me to sit here and criticise the Saudi Pro League and everything that went along with that. That certainly isn't the case or something I'm going to do. I've got full respect for the league, Ettifaq and the people over there who made us feel welcome. But unfortunately these things in life sometimes just don't work out, in football and life in general.

"I made a decision as soon as I knew the option [to join Ajax] was there, the decision was that this was the best move for me and my family at this time. If anybody was offended or felt as though I'd upset them, that's on me. That was my decision and I apologise for that, that was never my intention."

Henderson left Saudi after just a few months to join Ajax. After assisting eight times in 30 appearances this season, the midfielder could be on the move again this summer.

Despite reportedly being one of the club's highest earners and under contract until 2026, Henderson's future is up in the air after the Eredivisie side failed to qualify for the Champions League football next season. He looked emotional as he was given a standing ovation in Ajax's final home game against Almere.
