Joshua Jackson is gearing up for his upcoming feature role in the new Karate Kid film.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Disney Upfront red carpet on Tuesday, May 15, the 45-year-old actor shared insight into why he accepted the job in the first place.

"Part of the reason I wanted to make the movie is that it would be the first thing in a very, very long time that I could potentially watch with my daughter," the Dawson’s Creek actor told the outlet.

Jackson shares his four-year-old daughter, Juno Rose, with ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith. After four years of marriage, Turner-Smith filed for divorce from the Fatal Attraction actor in October 2023.

Since welcoming their daughter in April 2020, both Jackson and Turner-Smith have aimed to keep her out of the spotlight.

"I feel that to be fulfilled is being my best self for my child," Turner-Smith told PEOPLE in March 2023 "And I try to involve her in my life, not let work be this thing that exists outside of her, but that she also gets to be a part of. And so that she sees me being a working mother and being fulfilled and wanting to mother at the same time."

However, despite keeping their daughter largely out of the public eye, Jackson has still shared a few choice snippets of her life publicly.

Back in October 2022, Jackson spoke to PEOPLE about parenting Juno while attending The Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala Benefitting F--- Cancer.

"The work [of being a parent] is constant because she's constantly a new version of herself," Jackson explained. "So I think [you have to be] open to the fact that you have to rediscover your child all the time."

"But the greatest piece of it right now is she's so hyper-verbal, and she's very, very opinionated. And I'm just enjoying the ability to be in that conversation with her," he added.
