GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Greene County Sheriff's Department said a young infant died after a dog attack on Monday. Authorities said the newborn was only 4 days old and had been flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after the attack after initially being taken to Greeneville Community Hospital at around 10:30 a.m.
The sheriff's department said it is looking into the death along with the state's Department of Children's Services. The Regional Forensic Center said it could not confirm the specific cause of death pending official autopsy results. Autopsy procedures were completed on Tuesday, authorities said.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said it was not involved in investigating the death.
