Steve Carell Confirms He Won’t Appear In ‘The Office’ Spinoff: ‘There’s No Reason’ To Show Up
It seems the legendary Michael Scott can't make it into the office.
'The Office' star Steve Carell recently confirmed that he will not participate in the spinoff series of the cult-favorite TV show. "I will be watching, but I will not be showing up," Carell, 61, said of the series Peacock announced on May 8.
"It's just a new thing, and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that," he added.
"I love the idea — I guess it's set in a family newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads. I did 'The Patient' with him, and he's an excellent actor and a super nice guy, so I think it'll be great," Carell said, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The 61-year-old mentioned he was "excited" about the spinofff and claims it's a "great conceit."
Meanwhile, Carell has his focus on the 'IF' movie premiere, which he played in alongside his former co-star John Krasinski, who wrote and directed the new film.
"As of now, I haven't been asked," Krasinski, 44, admitted regarding the spinoff. "But the truth is I'd do anything for Greg Daniels, it sounds like they have a really fun idea."
Peacock has announced that the show will be set in the same world as the original series, but instead of returning to the Dunder Mifflin Paper company in Pennsylvania, the series will reveal new characters who struggle with a "dying newspaper" in the midwest.
President of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment, Lisa Katz, maintains good spirits for the fresh version of the spinoff.
"It's been more than 10 years since the final episode of 'The Office' aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," she said.
Per 'The New York Post,' production for 'The Office' spinoff is set to begin in July.
