Warning! Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 2.

Summary

  • Yellowjackets season 3 is now filming after delays caused by the strikes last year.
  • New images from the set are released, teasing how life has changed after the cabin fire in season 2.
  • The loss of the cabin could see the Yellowjackets team devolve further into violence and a more primitive state of being.

Yellowjackets season 3 is now in production, and new images from the set tease the aftermath of the cabin fire. Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the hit Showtime series first premiered in 2021, telling a dual-timeline story of a high school girls soccer team as they struggle to survive in the wilderness following a plane crash, and the same survivors 20 years later. Yellowjackets season 3 was confirmed in December 2022, but the show faced delays last year due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Now, a new post on X, formerly Twitter, from the official Yellowjackets account reveals that filming has now officially started for season 3. The post includes four images from the set, though no actors are present. Check out the post below:

The images, while not giving too much away, tease how life has changed for the characters following the destruction of their cabin, with one showing a makeshift shelter and another showing an ominous structure with an animal skull fixed to it.

Yellowjackets season 3 isn't expected to release until some point in 2025.

What The Loss Of The Cabin Means For Yellowjackets Season 3

Things Could Be About To Get Way Worse For The Yellowjackets Team

After the cabin helped the stranded team survive through a brutal winter, the Yellowjackets season 2 finale saw the building go up in flames. The episode ends as the team watches the cabin burn, and the event is sure to have major repercussions on the story moving forward. Who is to blame for this calamity is sure to be a question on many characters' minds, and, since Ben (Steven Krueger) is responsible, his life will seemingly be in major danger in season 3.

Beyond the immediate threat to Ben, the loss of the cabin could also mean that the Yellowjackets characters further devolve into the ruthless and primitive hunters seen in the show's premiere episode. The evolution of the team has played out gradually over the course of seasons 1 and 2, but the absence of shelter is sure to make tensions run high. As survival becomes more challenging, the team could become more likely to turn on one another, probably leading to even more cannibalism.

While the team has so far only eaten those who have died on their own, season 2 showed that they're now at the point of choosing victims who are to be sacrificed. Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) is chosen as one such victim, but she ends up escaping death (in the 1990s timeline, at least), when Javi (Luciano Leroux) dies instead. It seems likely that Yellowjackets season 3 will see the team finally kill one of their own in order to consume them.
