Rohit Sharma blasts Star Sports for breach of privacy; slams broadcaster for focus on ‘views and engagement’

Rohit Sharma was recently recorded in a clip where he can be heard telling the cameraperson not to record audio of his conversation with his friends.

Rohit Sharma has lashed out at broadcasters Star Sports for airing his conversations for “views and engagement” despite him requesting them not to. The angry India captain posted his comments on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.

“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days,” Rohit Sharma said in a tweet on Sunday after Mumbai Indians had ended its IPL 2024 campaign.

“Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket,” Rohit Sharma added.

In recent times, two clips with Rohit Sharma’s comments have become public. The first showed the Indian cricket team captain having a chat at the Eden Gardens with his one-time Mumbai Ranji Trophy teammate Abhishek Nayar. The clip was first aired by a franchise’s social media handle. But after realising that Rohit Sharma was possibly speaking about personal stuff that he wouldn’t want to be made public, the video was then hastily deleted. But by then, the damage was done. Many social media accounts had picked up the clip and had aired the clip themselves.

After this, Rohit Sharma was seen in another clip where he was chatting with his friends in the stands at the Wankhede Stadium. In this second clip, Rohit Sharma can be heard telling the cameraperson shooting him to not record his audio.

Festive offer

Bhai audio band karo haan? Ek audio ne mera waat laga diya (Please switch off the audio, one audio recording has ruined me),” he can be seen pleading with the cameraperson with folded hands.

What seems to have angered Rohit Sharma was that even that clip was aired with just one part muted in the middle.
