Google May Switch to TSMC Chipsets for Pixel 10

Google's Pixel phones could see a big change in 2025 as the company is reportedly planning to switch from Samsung Foundry to TSMC for its Tensor processors . Insider Revegnus said that TSMC will manufacture the chipsets for the Pixel 10 series and subsequent models using the company's advanced 3nm process.

The move marks a significant departure from Google's long-standing collaboration with Samsung, which made all previous Tensors. TSMC is known for producing more efficient processors, as evidenced by the performance difference between Samsung's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and TSMC's Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

In preparation for this transition, Google is expanding its R&D center to Taiwan and is hiring additional local semiconductor engineers. The changes are aimed at increasing the “efficiency and productivity” Pixel devices.

While the switch to TSMC promises to be an improvement, there is no certainty that TSMC will maintain its lead over Samsung Foundry in the 3nm manufacturing node at that time.
