Nationwide donates £10,000 for Windsor 'pocket park'

Nationwide has donated £10,000 towards a new pocket park in Windsor town centre.

The building society pledged to make a contribution to its Windsor Community Fund as part of its campaign celebrating its status as the last remaining bank branch in the town.

Popstar Chesney Hawkes delivered a performance of his smash-hit ‘The One and Only’ at Nationwide’s William Street branch in February.

For every current or savings account opened by a Windsor resident between February 27 and March 26, Nationwide donated £200 to its community fund.

Customers had the chance to vote for how the money should be spent and almost two thirds of people chose the pocket park initiative.

Mandy Beech, Nationwide’s Director of Retail Services, said: “The Windsor Community Fund is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the local community that has stuck with us over the years, since our branch on William Street opened in 1979.

“A physical branch is not just about accessing money, it’s about being a part of the local community, supporting local people and businesses, and being there to provide a friendly, face-to-face service when our members need us.

“To show our support for the local community, we pledged that the Windsor Community Fund would be spent in way that would be chosen by the people of Windsor themselves, and we are excited to work with our partners at Windsor Lions and Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to bring the new pocket park to life, for all to enjoy.”
