TRAVELLERS have set up camp at a park in Cheshire West.

Police have been alerted to an unauthorised encampment at Leaf Lane Play Area in Winsford.

The group of six caravans arrived at the Winsford Town Council-owned park on Tuesday night (May 14).

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 8.15pm police were made aware of an encampment at Leaf Lane Park, Winsford.

“Officers have been paying passing attention to the site and the local authority have been made aware.”

This latest encampment comes after six caravans parked up in the Queensway area of Winsford.

Having arrived on Monday (May 13), the group was told to leave the council-owned land by Cheshire Police.

They have since moved on, however, it is not yet clear if this is the same group that has now arrived at Leaf Lane.

A spokesperson for Chesire West and Chester Council said: “The group at Queensway has now left and officers will be visiting Leaf Lane shortly.”

Winsford councillor Nathan Pardoe added: "Thanks to the residents who made me aware of the traveller encampment at Leaf Lane Play Area yesterday evening.

"I reported it last night to the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team and Winsford Town Council who manage Leaf Lane Play Area.

"Officers from the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team have confirmed they are visiting the Leaf Lane Play area today to conduct checks."

Updates on unauthorised encampments in the area will be shared on the borough council’s website.
