BREAKING NEWS: Titans 2024 UDFA Towson CB as the primer I find Robert Javier intriguing.

After the 2024 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans formally reached agreements with 16 undrafted free agents. Each of them took part in the rookie minicamp held this past weekend. Robert Javier, a small-school player, is a cornerback that intrigues me.

Javier leaves Towson after two extremely successful seasons and joins the Titans. In 2022 and 2023, he recorded a total of 26 pass breakups and six interceptions. Javier was selected for the CAA Second Team. Paradoxically, he is the only CB from Towson to be named All-CAA since 2014, when former Titans defensive back Tye Smith did so.

Javier did not receive an invitation to the NFL Combine, but during Towson’s Pro Day, he demonstrated strong testing and measurables. With 16 bench press repetitions, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound Javier showed off his excellent play strength. He also had exceptional performances in the broad jump (10 feet 4 inches) and vertical jump (38.5 inches). Javier had a strong 20-yard split (2.58) and a 4.57 40. Javier also achieved excellent times in the 3-cone (6.96) and shuttle (4.10). Javier is one of the greatest athletes the Titans signed in undrafted free agency, with a Relative Athletic Score of 8.33.

Although Chido Awuzie, L’Jarius Sneed, and Roger McCreary are three excellent corners for the Titans, there is competition for back-end roster places. William Jackson III, a seasoned cornerback, was present for the Titans’ rookie minicamp, but the team hasn’t said that Jackson will join the team just yet. Jarvis Brownlee Jr., a rookie selected in the fifth round, will play some part, but the rest is up in the air.

There are many players fighting for a few positions because the Titans signed four defensive backs in undrafted free agency, including Javier. The roster also includes Anthony Kendall, Eric Garror, Tay Gowan, and Tre Avery, former undrafted free agents. Given his athleticism and track record of success, Javier might make an impression on the coaching staff throughout training camp.

I wonder whether the personnel is considering converting him to safety. He doesn’t move quickly enough to be a boundary corner, and he doesn’t seem to be big enough to press the bigger wide receivers. We know he’s a powerful and athletic ball hawk, so if his improved qualities materialize in practice, perhaps Hooker would be the greatest partner for him. Or maybe he will outplay his 40 in terms of game speed. Unquestionably worth a look.

Justin, just four of the 16 UDFA signings truly stand out as potential candidates for the 53-man roster, plus one nominee who will occupy a PS place.

Javier Gadlin Spencer—should he be well.

Temple TE is quite likely to make PS.

Shane Ray or the veteran CB will either have to contend until the roster is narrowed down or have a shot to make it.

Lally CB from Tennessee would be an honorable nominee.
From Bentley, Lupoli Jr.
USC’s Khalid Duke Kylen.

You seem to be undervaluing both TEs. With practically little else on their rosters, Steven Stilianos of Iowa and David Martin-Robinson of Temple both have a strong chance of contending for TE3. There’s definitely room for a UDFA DB like Cole Spencer and possibly an OL as well. Since EDGE’s depth is also quite poor, Khalid Duke has a chance. At RB, I also enjoy Dillon Johnson. He will shove Chestnut.

I haven’t heard much about DJohnson, but I believe there’s a great chance for someone to step up and replace Pollard or Spears. It wouldn’t hurt to have a large player with special team experience. Chestnutt might still be there; Vrabel adored him.
