Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is pulling all the stops for his upcoming film. Fresh off the success of his latest film, Challengers, his new movie will be led by two famous actors.

Julia Roberts joined Luca Guadagnino's thriller After The Hunt this past March. The film, which comes from Imagine Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios, is currently looking for more A-list firepower. Two-time Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield is currently in negotiations to star in Guadagnino's film alongside Roberts, Deadline reports.

Described as an "intense thriller," Guadagnino's After the Hunt will be set in the world of academia. The film follows a college professor (Roberts) who "finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues, and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light."

The film, which is slated for release in theaters next year, will have Luca Guadagnino at the helm from a script by Nora Garrett. Guadagnino, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum will produce, with Imagine Entertainment’s Karen Lunderexecutive producing alongside Nora Garrett. The film aims to start production this summer.

Luca Guadagnino Has Many Exciting Projects Lined Up

The director has produced many critically acclaimed films so far. He worked twice with Timothée Chalamet for 2017's Call Me by Your Name and 2022's Bones and All, helmed the 2018 horror Suspiria, and the recent hit Challengers, which stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist.

With many projects on the way, he is currently in post-production for Queer, the adaptation of William S. Burroughs's novel of the same name. The film stars Daniel Craig and, despite not having a distributor or a release date, is expected to premiere in 2024. He was also in talks to direct The Shards limited series for HBO, based on Bret Easton Ellis' semi-autobiographical series. Guadagnino was also set to direct Burial Rites, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film is based on the book of the same name by Hannah Kent and follows a woman accused of murder in a small village in Iceland. The film was announced in 2017 with no other recent updates.

Before After the Hunt, Garfield will next be seen in A24 and Studio Canal’s We Live In Time, starring alongside Florence Pugh. The actor's credits include The Social Network and taking over the role of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man duology. He last reprised his role of Parker in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

After the Hunt is expected to premiere sometime in 2025.
