I started off working on B0105, 206B, L, L-1, L-3. And progressed into heavy’s such as Bell 205, 212, a little 214ST, 412 mainly because there was plenty of overtime that nobody else wanted. Then as time went on Puma, S-76A, C, C+, C++. All most forgot AS350, 355, AW139, 407, EC135. But the last part of my time was a lot on S-92 .
All great machines I currently test all the avionics systems on the Blackhawks, Naval Hawks ECT ( all variants) so I was just curious 😆

This is what happens when a nation completely ignores trades education and devalues trades careers. I lived and served in Germany for two years during the cold war. Highly trained mechanics. Highly trained tradesmen in any career you could think of. In unions. Well paid. Proud of their work. With excellent social status.

I still remember my jaw dropping to the floor when I picked up my Honda CRX after a routine oil change and service. Every component on the car had been noticeably adjusted. The clutch felt tighter. The parking brake was adjusted. I mean every item on that checklist had been performed.

In the USA, you're lucky to get the filter changed with your oil. That's assuming they don't outright lie to you and don't even change the oil

I have a friend who marks or tapes every component to be serviced with initials before service. He called out a Honda dealer when they said they replaced two hatch struts but only replaced one. The mechanic and service manager denied it to his face. He made the dealership manager and showed him the initials on the unchanged strut. That's American car service in a nut shell.
Germany (and many other European countries) have highly skilled tradesmen. My in-laws home in NY has kitchen cabinets that were made entirely by hand by their German neighbor back when they bought the house in the 60's. You'd e hard pressed to find cabinetry that well made in today's times. Not a nail or a screw anywhere to be found except on the handles of the cabinetry. Everything else is hand-fitted together.

The lack of necessary the skills, and just as importantly, the pride to actually care about doing a job correctly is NOT limited to the automotive field...

Have you tried to find a good plumber, carpenter or electrician lately?

I end up doing just about everything myself, it's just plain less aggravating. And if it gets F'D up I know who to blame.

You are so right. I live in a small town and just finding a repair person is a feat in itself. But one that takes pride in a job well done is on another level. But there are some still out there, just not every where .

I find there are generally two kinds of quick lane locations.

Location A. Co-Located with a Ford dealer aimed at doing the light/quick work on Ford autos

Location B. Separately located with heavy duty mechanic work and focus on non-Ford automobiles. I'd trust the 2nd more with this sort of thing.

It's the mechanic shortage. Dealers and repair places are forced hire these Neanderthals who thought 10W-30 was a public transit line up until 6 months ago. Pair that with Ford leading the industry in recalls for 3 years straight, and it's a recipe for utter idiocracy every trip to the dealer.

I bet the same guy who changed your fluids eats with his fucking hands and grunts incoherently at lunchtime.

I have an excellent father-son mechanic team 5 blocks north of me. AND, I went to school with the wife/mother. I always ask for a classmate discount. I never get one :D .

One time I got an unrepairable flat on my '05 Ford Taurus. I brought it in to the Quicklane with the donut spare on the passenger rear and the flat in the trunk and told them I wanted two new tires.

They gave it to the new guy who proceeded to replace my two front tires and leave the donut spare on the back. In his defense I didn't explicitly tell them that the wheel with the flat was in the trunk but I thought the situation was fairly self explanatory...

When I went to replace the two front tires later they managed to give me back the car with two entirely different tires on the front, but to be fair that was a different non-Ford dealership.
Ok, this story really got me to laugh out loud! You can't make this stuff up!! Who worked on your car? Laurel and Hardy?

My dealer didn’t have a separate QL but did keep a couple lube techs on most of the time. Usually, they didn’t care to learn enough about PTS to look up fluid specs, they just went by what the older guys told them the engines took.

Specific procedures for drain/fill and check level on the 6F/8F with the side plugs? Good luck, much less expecting them to even know what a PTU is without asking someone.

it really is a roll of the dice nowadays but also; it’s not necessarily that they aren’t being offered *any* training, it’s just that some folks don’t really care to learn 🤷‍♂️
