The hunt is on for a new judge to fill the empty seat left by Katy Perry on American Idol, and country artist Jelly Roll seems keen to take the position.

Jelly Roll hinted at his interest in the job but admitted there had been no formal offer made so far. Speaking to Audacy, he elucidated: "Consider?! I've accepted the job, and they haven't offered."

Perry has expressed her support for the singer-songwriter, openly admitting that she finds him persuasive.

Yet, unfortunately for both Jelly Roll and Perry, that decision falls outside their purview - such a decision rests in the hands of the executives in charge.

Albeit, Jelly Roll will face stiff competition as several other artists are also allegedly under consideration for the judgeship at American Idol.

Kelly Clarkson is another potential successor being mentioned as an exciting prospect to be leading American Idol.

Fans hold sentimentality with her being the show's first-ever winner.

Current judge Lionel Richie extended an invite to Clarkson, expressing: "I didn't want to bring that up. Not only did I think about it, I slipped important notes.

"You know what I'm saying, Kelly, we've been together a long time. Kelly, if you don't have anything else to do, I'd like to drop that out there. Big fan!".

Kelly, the current host of her own show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, maintains a busy schedule and hasn't reacted publicly since Lionel Richie presented her with a potential position.
