In the first episode of the 2024 K-drama, audiences meet the Bok family head, Bok Man-heum (played by Go Doo-shim), trying to end her life, after discovering that the family’s magical powers are gone. However, her husband, Eom Soon-gu (played by Oh Man-seok), stops her from doing so. Soon, they find their son Gwi-joo (played by Jang Ki-young) missing. The family then rushes to the beach and witnesses Do Da-hae (played by Chun Woo-hee) saving Gwi-joo. Man-heum predicts that she will be the saviour of the Bok family.

Episode 2 offers an insight into Da-hae’s family. They work together to create personal bonds with wealthy households and scam them in the end. Audiences also discover that Da-hae has already scammed her two previous husbands and their families, and her next target is the Bok family. The episode ends with Da-hae winning Yi-na’s trust and succeeding in creating a soft spot in Gwi-joo’s heart.

In episodes 3 and 4, fans can likely expect The Atypical Family to delve deeper into the ongoing storylines. These include Da-hae’s further plans and Gwi-joo genuinely falling for Da-hae.

Helmed by SKY Castle fame director Jo Hyun-taek, The Atypical Family focuses on Bok Gwi-doo (Jang) and his family, who are on the verge of losing all their special powers. However, when they meet a mysterious woman named Do Da-hae (Chun), their lives change forever.

One of the best Netflix K-dramas to release in May 2024, The Atypical Family is written by Joo Hwa-mi, who wrote screenplays for hit Korean TV shows like My Shy Boss (2017) and Marriage, Not Dating (2014).
