Kozhikode: In a move to support the holistic growth of children, particularly those from tribal and scheduled caste communities, Kudumbashree has announced the 'Kanas Jaga' (dream place) project. Rooted in tribal vernacular, 'Kanas Jaga' aims to foster awareness among children regarding their environment, climate and social challenges, equipping them to address these issues effectively.
The initiative includes a comprehensive approach, encompassing children's education, healthcare, nutrition, cultural heritage preservation, cultural background, and economic empowerment strategies. Skill development programs will also be integrated to enhance livelihood prospects.
'Kanas Jaga' will initially be implemented in regions where scheduled tribe sustainable development projects are ongoing, under Kudumbashree. These areas include Kasaragod-Koraga, Kannur-Aralam, Wayanad-Thirunelli, Noolpuzha, Malappuram-Nilambur, Palakkad-Attappadi, Parambikulam, Vandazhi, Thrissur-Kadar, Idukki-Edamalakudy, Marayoor Kanthalloor and Pathanamthitta-Malapandaram.
The initiative will provide specialised training to children, with a dedicated team of 60 individuals selected statewide for this purpose. Each training batch, comprising 30 to 50 children aged 11-18, will focus on nurturing creativity and problem-solving skills. Participants will be encouraged to creatively express their concerns through storytelling, plays, or dramas. Trainers will facilitate the identification and documentation of such local issues represented.
All gathered information will be documented precisely. A State-level film festival featuring videos produced during the camps will be organised. The insights and recommendations generated from these endeavours will be submitted to the government for further action.
Main objectives of the initiative
- Develop leadership skills in children
- Improve mental health
- Address economic, social, and cultural issues
- Take action to bring about social change by taking issues to the mainstream.
