Inside Out is imagined in live-action in new fan art. Released in 2015, Inside Out anthropomorphizes a series of emotions — Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, and Sadness — that live inside the head of a preteen girl named Riley. Riley will soon be further explored as she enters her teenage years in Inside Out 2, which is set for release on June 14. Inside Out 2 features a leading voice cast of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser.
Now, art from @dejaview.tv imagines a live-action version of Inside Out.
The art also includes looks at what the world inside Riley’s mind could look like in live-action. The first image shows a look at Joy and Sadness. Joy is perhaps the most human-looking character in Inside Out itself. As such, she has the most human features here, having a peach skin tone, unlike Sadness’ blue face. Later images show similar live-action looks at Inside Out, including an image of disgust that sees the character looking like a human, just with grass-green hair. The imaginary pink elephant Bing Bong is also included.

Disney Continues To Update Animated Movies In Live-Action
In recent years, live-action remakes seem to be one of Disney’s favorite things to make. Currently, the studio is developing a live-action version of Moana, with Dwayne Johnson in his role of Maui. The production company was criticized for its live-action version of The Lion King. While made in a different style, the majority of the graphics in The Lion King were still rendered with CGI animation. This 2019 version of The Lion King did well at the box office and has spawned another film, Mufasa: The Lion King.
Images like this Inside Out fan art beg the question of whether this Pixar film should be made into live-action. Looking through this art seems like proof that while Inside Out could be figured out in live-action (or some version of live-action), it should not be. Part of what gives the Pixar film life is the vibrancy and range of the colors, something that would not work as well if physical actors played the emotions. As seen in the image of Anger in this art, there is also a goofiness to seeing even more human-like figures in Inside Out.
For that reason, Pixar and Disney should avoid making a live-action version of Inside Out to relieve themselves of the potential undermining of a great Pixar film. As of now, Disney has not reported any plans to make a live-action adaptation of Inside Out. With films like The Lion King being adapted, no Disney film is immune from the live-action adaptation curse, but hopefully any potential Inside Out content after Inside Out 2 will stay in the animated realm.
