Toyota Motor North America is seeking tax abatements for a potential $531.7 million expansion of its body-on-frame assembly complex near San Antonio, according to public records filings first reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
The project would allow the automaker to manufacture components for vehicle lines at the complex, Automotive News has confirmed, and would add an estimated 411 jobs to the complex, which currently builds the Toyota Tundra full-size pickup and Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. Details of the project were submitted to Bexar County, Texas, for approval.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas opened in 2006 and employs more than 3,800 people. More than 20 on-site suppliers employ an additional 5,600 workers, according to the Japanese automaker.
