Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Whizbang’s Workshop (Week 9) – May 2024

The mini-set was released earlier this week and we already had a few days to play with it. Sadly, the results are pretty mixed. While it’s true that some previously unplayable decks have gained traction (Spell Mage and Secret Hunter in particular), the biggest winner was an already strong Pain Warlock. With the addition of Mass Production and INFERNAL!, the deck is now nearly unstoppable. It’s pretty common for it to drop a big board (including a couple of 0 mana Molten Giants) on Turn 3-4 and then heal up to 15 with INFERNAL to get out of range of any burn. Right now it’s only really countered by Aggro Token Paladin (because it has no good way to answer wide boards), which is exactly the reason why those two are at the top. Pain Warlock destroys most of the meta and Aggro Paladin destroys Pain Warlock.

Of course, those aren’t the only viable decks. Zarimi Priest is also up there – but it’s kept in check by even faster decks like the aforementioned duo of Pain Warlock & Aggro Paladin. If those were nerfed, Zarimi Priest would absolutely dominate. Then we have a bunch of Tier 2 decks – Secret Hunter (both in regular and Reno forms), Reno Warrior (the nerf did in fact had quite a big impact on it, but it’s still viable), Sludge & Fatigue Warlock, Aggro Demon Hunter, Hybrid Druid etc. The Tier 2 meta is actually really healthy in Tier 2. We have lots of variety and nearly every class has a viable build. It’s just that – once again – the gap between Tier 1 and Tier 2 decks is so massive that there’s just no reason to play them if you want to climb to Legend in the most effective way.

All of that said, it’s still early in the mini-set and the meta might still experience some changes. But I wouldn’t expect any major shifts at the top. We also already know that patch 29.4.2 is coming soon (it was mentioned in 29.4 notes when talking about Weekly Quest changes), but we don’t know whether it will contain any balance changes. I would expect them, but nothing was officially announced yet. We’ll probably learn more next week.

    For wild decks, you can stop read at quest warlock, others are irrelevant
