Confused about all the métro and RER ticket options

Hello,

I am visiting Paris for 6 days. I will be staying near St Cloud, in Zone 3, on the L and U lines. I'm looking at the cheapest ticket options for travelling around Paris during my trip. I've heard of the Paris Visite card, but am not sure if it's the best option, because on one day of my trip I want to go out to Zone 5, but for the other days I will probably stay within Zones 1-3. I'm also going to need to use the trains for 6 days.

Please can anyone help? Thank you in advance!

Which day of the week do you arrive and leave Paris?

Do you fly? train?

Is it during Olympics July 20 - Sept. 8?

Can you change your accommodation to be on METRO line?

Hi Tesa, Thanks for your reply.

I arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Saturday. I know there's a Monday to Friday ticket - I could potentially buy that, and then get extra tickets for the other two days. But that seems quite expensive. Are there any other options? Can I get a carnet of Zone 1-3 tickets?

Too late to change my accommodation at this stage. I wanted to be somewhere quieter, outside the centre.

It's this month, not during the Olympics.

Ok, then bring small 25x30 mm photo for each person.

Purchase Navigo Decouverte card ( 5 €) valid for 10 years for reloading passes.

Load weekly pass for zones 1-5 ( 30.75 €) onto ND card. Weekly pass is valid Mon. morning to Sun. midnight. That will cover all your public transportation during that period for all of Ile de France (Paris region), inc. airports, Versailles, Fontainebleau, Disneyland and many more. Only exception is Orlyval (train shuttle within Orly airport).

You will only need separate tickets or day pass for arrival Sunday. Do you fly in or train?

Hi Tesa,

Thanks very much for your helpful reply.

I'm going on Eurostar, arriving at Gare du Nord.

Can I buy the card itself on Sunday when I arrive at Gare du Nord? Where at the station can I get it? I understand I can only buy the weekly pass on Monday, but I'm guessing I can load the credit onto the card myself at a ticket machine on the Monday morning?

You can buy the card and load it any time.

You can only load the current week pass before Thursday midnight of any week. So if you load after that (which you will), it will automatically be set for the following week.

Hello.

As already mentioned, at Gare du Nord you can purchase the Navigo Découverte card and charge the Weekly pass (30.75 euros).

In addition to this, you can also load a Day pass valid on the same day, Sunday, for 1-3 zones (11.60 euros).

In this way there will be complete coverage for the entire duration of the stay, being able to use metro bus trains based on the zones valid on the first day and in the entire Paris region in the following daysHello.
