The iOS 17.5 update seems to have a bug that’s bringing up data that iPhone users thought was permanently deleted. Several iPhone users are reporting on Reddit discussion forums that the images they deleted years ago are popping up again, after upgrading to the iOS 17.5 version. Some users have reported that the iOS 17.5 update restores photos they deleted more than 10 years ago.
The iOS platform does provide iPhone users the option to restore deleted photos. However, the images in the recently deleted section are supposed to be permanently removed after 30 days, as per the Apple Support page. According to users on Reddit, after the iOS 17.5 update, the old deleted images are resurfacing and showing up as “recently uploaded” to iCloud.

One iPhone user has claimed that their photos from 2010 have surfaced as the “latest pics uploaded to iCloud”. Some have mentioned that photos from different times have been restored out of nowhere. As of now, it is not clear what’s causing this bug. Apple hasn’t yet officially acknowledged the issue and the users are waiting for a fix.
This bug is not only freaking out the users but also opens up a serious discussion around how long Apple keeps deleted user data. Many users are expecting an explanation of how the photos are reappearing, apart from the inevitable fix.
It’s worth mentioning that this bug doesn’t appear to be specific to just photos. Some iPhone users on Reddit have reported that their old deleted voicemails and notes have surfaced after the update. We will update you more on the matter as soon as Apple announces anything.
