Upper Grand District School Board teams excel at provincial skills competition

TORONTO – On May 6 and 7, hundreds of students from across the province gathered at the Toronto Congress Centre for the 2024 Skills Ontario competition, including may teams from the Upper Grand District School Board. 

Teams that placed first at the board’s regional skills competitions in April advanced to the to the provincial level.

Waverley Drive Public School placed first in Grade 7/8 Vex Robotics and Lego Mechanics. 

East Garafraxa Public School placed third in Grade 4-6 Vex Robotics. 

Palmerston Public School placed fifth in the Grade 7/8 Tech Design competition.*

Wil A from John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute placed first in Automotive Service Technology, with support from coach Gary Bauman.

Wil will be advancing to the National Skills competition in Quebec City at the end of May. 

Emma P from Centre Wellington District High School, coached by Chef Chris Jess, placed second in Culinary Arts.

Colby L from John F. Ross placed second in Job Interview, coached by Paul Lydan. 

Ben H from Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute placed second in Precision Machining with coach Matt Lyle. 

Jordan C from Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, coached by Brad Cutten, placed third in Coding.
