LISTEN: The Harpoonist Keeps The Harp Alive On Anthemic “Good People”

Originally from Toronto, The Harpoonist is the alias for the harpoon/harmonica/harp prodigy, otherwise known as Shawn Hall. Having performed for almost two decades, spending 17 years as part of The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer (with guitarist Matt Rogers taking the name of the latter), the duo released six albums, playing countless sell-out tours, and received praise from Canadian national newspapers.

A hypnotic take on folk balladry, Hall mixes electronic melodies with organic instruments for the whirling “Good People.” Immediately upon pressing play, you are transported into the colorfully ambient world of the artist. His impassioned vocals create a tornado of emotions. The warping electronic undertones add an otherworldly element to this deeply relatable song. Hall croons about the importance of the human connection while filtering it through his poetic songwriting prowess. “Good People” is the anthem you didn’t know you needed. Hall spins a refreshingly optimistic worldview via soaring harmonica melodies and an unpredictable arrangement that gets better with every listen.

“‘Good People’ flew in like a bird in a mantra form of some sort at my dining table a few years back. It’s whirled around inside me to dizzying degrees ever since,” explains Hall on the new single. “Never experienced anything like it before. I kind’ve knew it could be a pillar or placeholder of some kind for a greater purpose. It invoked a call to action within me. Can’t say that’s a bad thing, as it woke me up from my post-COVID fog with a much-needed greater sense of purpose.”
