Camas golfers excel in first round of the 4A bi-district tournament

Makenzie Henthorn topped Elizabeth Peery in a pitchers’ duel Monday as Mark Morris beat Ridgefield 1-0 in a 2A Greater St. Helens League softball tiebreaker in Longview.

With the win, Mark Morris will earn the No. 1 seed to the district playoffs, where the Monarchs will face the winner of Tuesday’s Rochester-Hockinson game in the first round Thursday in Chehalis.

Ridgefield will take the No. 2 seed and open district Thursday against Aberdeen.

Grace Woodbridge doubled in the third inning, then came around to scored on a single by Megan Fugelberg to produce the game’s only run.

Henthorn gave up just four hits with 13 strikeouts and no walks.

Peery struck out 11, walked one and also gave up four hits.

SETON CATHOLIC 9, CASTLE ROCK 7— Ellie Forster went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBI as the Cougars captured the outright Trico League title with a win at Castle Rock.

Kingsley Williams went 3 for 4 with two runs and two doubles for Seton Catholic (16-4, 13-2 Trico). Hailey Wastradowski was 3 for 4 with a two runs, a double and triple for Castle Rock.

Girls golf

LEE, CHEN LEAD AT BI-DISTRICTS — Jacinda Lee and Jasmine Chen each shot even-par rounds of 73 to share the lead after the first round of the 4A bi-district tournament at Meadow Park Golf Course in Tacoma.

Rachel Rerick shot 83 and Morgan Schlesinger shot 87 for the Papermakers, who hold a 19-shot lead over second-place Kentwood. The tournament concludes with the second round on Tuesday.

MOORE IN TOP 10 — Maddy Moore shot an 83 on Monday at Auburn Golf Course and sits in 10th place overall in the 3A bi-district tournament. The tournament concludes with a second round on Tuesday.

KNAPP IN SECOND AT 2A DISTRICT — Jana Knapp of Mark Morris is in second place after shooting a round of 85 Monday in the first round of the 2A district tournament at Three Rivers Golf Course in Kelso.

Woodland’s Khloe Rist is in fourth place with an 87 and and Maia Carrillo of Columbia River shot 89, good for sixth place.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.

MOATS FIFTH AT 1A DISTRICT — Ava Moats of King’s Way Christian is in fifth place after shooting a round of 102 in the first round of the 1A district tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Club. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
