Which deceased actors would you have liked to see be nominated for Academy Awards, but weren’t?

Discussion

Doesn’t have to be for a specific performance, but would be preferred.

Marilyn Monroe, Raul Julia, Alan Rickman, John Cazale

Which movie for Rickman?

Not the OP, but for me personally, I'd nominate him for "Sense and Sensibility" (1995).

That's a great one. He was nominated for the BAFTA for that and probably should have gotten a nomination. Also Kate Winslet would probably be my pick for supporting actress win that year. Her or Kathleen Quinlan from Apollo 13. Both were better than Mira Sorvino.

Ooh, I didn’t think of that, he’s delightful there

Not OP, but I’d say he probably makes my lineups for Die Hard and Deathly Hallows Part 2

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2

He is good in that but it’s a little tough. That year though I would nominate him over Max Von Sydow though. But there are also like 5 other actors would I have swapped Sydow out for

Oh I loved Rickman.

PICTURED

Joseph Cotten (The Third Man)

Christopher Lee (Jinnah)

Brittany Murphy (8 Mile)

Why the hell did Christopher Lee play Jawaharlal Nehru? I mean he surprisingly looks the part but what a weird choice

No, he played Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. And yeah, it was pretty controversial - not for the blatant brownface though, but rather the fact that he previously played Dracula, as supernatural stuff is forbidden in Islam.

Joseph Cotten is my go-to example for this.

Alan Rickman

Peter Lorre

Edward G. Robinson

Myrna Loy

Maureen O’Hara

Pretty much who I would have suggested. Myrna Loy and Robinson are quite surprising. I would add Vincent Price and Boris Karloff as well.

Lorre is like the original "that guy" actor. And so good at it. Hes incredible in M. Really a foundational role for movie psychos.

Marilyn Monroe should've been nominated (and perhaps win) for Some Like It Hot

She totally should have been!

Harry Dean Stanton is someone who I’m surprised never got any major award nomination. Most of his nominations are posthumous, for Lucky (2017). The only big award show to recognize him is for a SAG and even that was for “best ensemble performance” in The Green Mile (which it should’ve won).

Alan Richman or Ray Liotta

Wasn't Ray Liotta nominated for GoodFellas?

EDIT: HE WASN'T NOMINATED!?!?

Surprised he never got nominated

u/AcroserProductions avatar

I am too, I think he also should've got a Best Supporting Actor nom. For Field of Dreams

Dean Martin for sure. Such an underrated actor, he’s absolutely fantastic in Rio Bravo

Not for a film that he was in during his lifetime, but I have no doubt Anton Yelchin could've eventually had a performance worthy of a nomination

u/emoteriyaki avatar

Anton Yelchin deserved better

Dude was really coming into his own as an actor. That death still disturbs me to think about.

Such a tragic loss and I'm sure he could have been nominated eventually

Edited

Jean-Louis Trintignant - The Conformist

Giulietta Masina - Nights of Cabiria

Toshiro Mifune - High and Low

Jeanne Moreau - Elevator to the Gallows

Mastroianni actually got nominated three times, including for A Special Day.

u/TalesOfLohr1 avatar

It is sad that Mifune was never even a nominee for anything.

Marilyn Monroe, Alan Rickman, John Barrymore, Charles Grodin

That John Cazale was never nominated is, very sadly, something that can never be rectified.

u/TalesOfLohr1 avatar

Takashi Shimura - IKIRU

Giulietta Masina

Alan Rickman for Robin Hood or the final HP.

Carrie Fisher for the Postcards From the Edge Screenplay
